Bold statement: Ukrainian figure skater wears ‘blood stain’ shirt in European Championship #shorts

Ukrainian figure skater Ivan Shmuratko performed at the 2024 European Figure Skating Championships in Lithuania with a symbolic blood stain on his shirt to pay tribute to the people who have died during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to public broadcaster Suspilne, Shmuratko’s performance on Friday, January 12, was a comeback after a two-year absence from the championship.

“An element with blood? Because that’s how it is, literally. People die from rockets like that, from blood”, the 22-year-old figure skater told Suspilne.

Footage filmed by Akvilė Ričkutė shows Shmuratko performing at the championship in Kaunas.
