Through a two-state solution Israelis must see their legitimate needs for security materialized and Palestinians must see their legitimate aspirations for a fully independent viable and sovereign state realized in line with United Nations resolutions international law and previous agreements Israel’s occupation must end last week’s clear and repeated rejection

Of the two-state solution at the highest level of the Israeli government is acceptable and this was despite the strongest appeals from even the friends of Israel including those sitting around this table

The UN secretary general, António Guterres, has said the ‘clear and repeated rejection of the two-state solution at the highest levels of the Israeli government is unacceptable’.

The UN chief said the only way to achieve peace in the region is by ending the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories. Guterres appealed for more aid access throughout the Gaza Strip as he told the council the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave was ‘appalling’. ‘The entire population of Gaza is enduring destruction at a scale and speed without parallel in recent history,’ he added.

  40. There already is a Palestinian state – Jordan, which is 78% of the Palestine Mandate. Named for the Jordan River that creates a natural border, it was illegally divided from the Palestine Mandate by Britain & given to the Hashemites to solve a dispute over who would rule Arabia & control the oil. It was called Trans-Jordan, but later shortened to Jordan. Jordan should administer the Palestinian territories as it did before.

  43. Two state obviously did not work or else Gaza would be prosperous and peaceful. Should not give Gaza back to Hamas or else problem is still unsolved. Israel need to govern Gaza to build a truly peaceful nation. There is no way for two state!

    UN is totally useless. Defund UN permanently.
