Italy’s Meloni reveals ‘non-predatory’ energy, migration plan at Africa summit • FRANCE 24 English

To Italy where the right-wing prime minister Georgia Malone has unveiled her latest plan to try to reduce clandestine boats arriving from Africa she described it as a non-predatory approach to reducing migration which has sharply increased despite her government making it the number one pledge in office it’s

A plan that’s going to cost more than 5.5 billion euros an investment plan we’re told for Africa cupta explains what’s going on from Rome well it’s quite a significant number of people I mean more than 20 heads of government and state from Africa here but you’ve also got the

Leaders of the European Union the presidents of the European commission uh the European Council uh all present as well as uh representatives from International institutions the UN as well as the World Bank and the international monetary fund so all of them here to discuss the issue about uh

How they’re going to develop this big development plan uh for uh the African continent and the link that Miss Malone is talking about between Italy and the African continent the theme of this conference talking about a bridge for common growth now she has just pledged 5.5 billion EUR in total in various

Aspects of this development plan including things uh pilot projects she talked about such as a uh Center for professional formation on the issue of renewable energies in Morocco as well as other projects in Ivory Coast Algeria mosambi Egypt Congo ethiop IOP and Kenya and she says this is just the starting

Point so her view is that this is not a predatory way of looking at things not a non-paternalistic one but one of common uh uh Mutual uh beneficiaries on both sides of the continent Italy being a Transit Hub to the rest of Europe but the key behind this whole issue is the

Issue of energy that Europe will have access through Italy to uh African energy resources uh and in exchange there will be an effort for greater investment and a move towards curbing the issue of illegal immigration across the Mediterranean into Europe

African leaders gathered at a Rome summit on Monday to hear Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s much-hyped plan for the continent, aimed at transforming Italy into an energy hub — and stopping migration. Far-right leader Meloni, who came to power in 2022 on an anti-migrant ticket, has vowed to reshape relations with African countries by taking a “non-predatory” approach inspired by Enrico Mattei, founder of Italy’s state-owned energy giant Eni.

  1. It is an interesting idea but this will not stop illegal immigration. Most of the problem is that African countries are over regulated, bureaucratic and penalizes entrepreneurial person from developing and growing. This is nice to have on your CV but it doesn't deal with the root causes of why these Africans leaving their country.

  2. Melony is very different than all western leaders she is brave & honesty for example she confronted macron and she disagree with
macron's neocolonializm in west africa she says macron is the cause of all those young africans leaving west africa and heading to europe
I don't agree that african leaders accept invitation and go to western countries but melony is exceptional I think it is good that african leaders accept her invitation and goes to italy

  3. Paying off dictators, corrupt despots tried several times & never stops migration flow in contrary it increases the flow.
Taking Small east African country Eritrea as an example….. Eritrea produces more migrants than most African countries.

1- Paying off or financing the brutal Eritrean dictator Isias Afeworki & his regime incentives him to push out more Eritrean citizens from the country. ( more migrant more financing)

1-The remittance send from diaspora to their loved once ends in the coffers of the dictator & cohorts & is a huge means of income for the dictator & his minions.

3- Eritrean in diaspora got to pay huge some to revisit their country & forced to pay 2% tax.

4- Long arm of the regime like mafia collect money & raise funds for the regime by using cultural festivities as a disguise & coverup.

Financing a despot is a failed buisness
