Avantika Vandanapu plays “bimbo” Karen Shetty in the new Mean Girls. #Shorts #MeanGirls #BBCNews

Think Karen in and of itself she feels like somebody who Embraces being a bimbo and Embraces being like someone someone who’s sexual and like not super intelligent and I think that that in and of itself breaks stereotypes of like what we encourage women to be like and

What we encourage women to think like and I think playing that kind of a character especially as a South Asian woman is like really really crazy and I think I commend Tina and art and Sam our directors for casting someone who visually also feels antithetical to

Someone who is like that um and I hope it is nearly as impactful as it was for me to be able to play this character to the rest of my community because it really was so important for me as well as like an actor to be like okay

So I’m not going to spend my entire life in this industry forever being perceived as someone who can only play like the shy nerd

  1. I’m a little confused. Is she saying that playing a “bimbo” who is “unapologetic about being sexual” is breaking stereotypes? I thought that was the trope we were trying to break out of? Admittedly, I am not familiar with specifically South Asian values and a stereotypes other than being family oriented and intelligent. Is that a really something you want to break out of? I think women have always been treated as unintelligent sex objects. Forgive me if I’m missing something obvious, and I certainly don’t mean to be critical of anyone’s culture🙏🏻.

  2. Please can we leave the philosophy and sociologically teachings to the experts and professionals.

And not from someone, who's job is to follow a script in front of the cameras.

    Thanks. 😬😬😬🤔🤔🤔

  3. Just when you thought Mean Girls couldn't get any meaner, they introduced a 'bimbo' Karen Shetty. Can't wait for the sequels: 'Gretchen the Genius' and 'Regina the Saint'! 😂

  4. DELUSIONAL. Cold shower, you need to get to your senses listen what you are saying. “Bi*bo” is textbook humiliation of women for crying out loud there’s no way to have this work for women just NO. Stop spreading this nonsense women will believe you then get a shock when they are treated extra disgusting. Wht tf is BBC promoting subservience of women?

  5. WTF BBC? This is not breaking ANY stereotypes it’s just widening the demographics have you all been lobotomised? Girls will be watching this and getting a completely wrong message about what it actually means like for crying out loud get a grip
