Northern Ireland’s devolved government has reconvened at Stormont and appointed Michelle O’Neill as first minister in a historic moment for Sinn Féin and Irish nationalism. O’Neill, Sinn Féin’s deputy leader, became first minister in accordance with a May 2022 assembly election in which the republican party overtook the DUP as the biggest party, a seismic symbolic and psychological shift.

  2. Even the best efforts of Jim Allister couldn't put a damper on this historic day, when people from other countries ask what caused the troubles they should be shown the video of Jim Allister's address to the assembly today that says it all.

  3. As a former Unionist / loyalist, i am very happy to see this change and to be honest what was inevitable. I lived in Australia for 4 year and most of my mates are Irish, i consider myself Irish as to be honest noone in the world really recognises Northern Ireland in my experience. We need to grow stronger together and i genuinely look forward to a united Ireland where we can all prosper. Peace and love 🇮🇪

  4. Well done to the FM for a truly inspiring Speech. Su h great composure and without any partizan rhetoric that we have had for the last 200 odd years.
A speech that spoke the Truth and Reconciliation between the communities.
Let's have no more of the Orange Boys or the Rebels. They belongs to History.
A new future beckons for the Irish, when twins separated at birth will be reunited.
