Brazil condemns UN ‘paralysis’ on Gaza, Ukraine at tense G20 meeting • FRANCE 24 English

The foreign Ministers of the G20 gathered in Rio de Janeiro for the first meeting of Brazil’s presidency it came against a backdrop of increasing division over the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza one which has prompted the hosts to call for an overhaul of the United Nations foreign minister Maro Vieira accused the intergovernmental

Organization of being unfit for purpose in its current form multilateral institutions however are ili to deal with the current challenges as demonstrated by the security council’s unacceptable paralysis in relation to ongoing conflicts this state of inaction directly leads to the loss of innocent lives permanent members of the security

Council most notably the United States Russia and China often resort to their veto power to block resolutions most recently in a security Council vote on Tuesday where the US VIs iian resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza US Secretary of State Anthony blinkin met Brazilian president Lu Lula de Silva on

Wednesday but the Americans admit there’s still a shortfall in agreement on the Israel Hamas conflict the secretary had a chance to discuss uh the the comments with President Lula today in his meeting uh in the context of an overall discussion uh uh about the conflict in Gaza and made clear as I did

Yesterday made clear that those are comments with which we disagree those differences will have to be put aside by G20 members as they attempt to hammer out a road map this week in advance of this year’s Summit which will take place in Rio in November

Brazil criticized the “paralysis” of the UN Security Council on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine as it opened a G20 meeting Wednesday where the international community’s deep divisions were on display.

  1. Is good some countries are waking up and realise that the UN is there to only do as they been told by the US and don’t care about anything else, they all employ people to make their speeches to present to the world whit no meaning to them.

  2. People still don't get it, it's not the US was the issue here, it's not Russia or anyone in the P5 is the issue here, the issue lies in the establishment of UN itself. That's the main issue.

You cannot have a super authority towering over every and each country, because A.) you need every country input to form that super entity, ie you need all 193 countries contribution to maintain the UN. B.) A super entity like UN with actual power is not going to be good for the world, because it would be Authoritarianism, think about it, the head of the super entity would be towering over everyone else in the world, which mean absolute power, it's good when the leader of that super entity is good, straight and narrow and for the people, but this will turn into worldwide oppression if the leader of that super entity is not working for the world but him/herself.

Which mean only 2 things we can have here. A.) A toothless Super Entity that exist in name only. B.) A rival super entity that can counterbalance each other when the either of them gone wrong.

We all want World Peace, but if you think about how peace was achieved, an organisation that wanted world peace is actually advocating world war that eliminate every other possibly and a single entity that dominate the world, be it a super entity like UN or an Empire or Coalition of country, that's what world peace actually mean.

  3. The “Useless Nations” needs to be disbanded, just look at the contrast between response to Ukraine compared with Gaza? It seems like you need to have blonde hair and blue eyes otherwise nothing for you! Not even food and water! This is the reality.

  4. In Brazil we have more people murdered then in countries that are in a war, unbelievable. Last year we had 40.464 killed, so it's better that the government start to look for its own problems.

  5. The sad thing is Latin American countries fighting for Palestine not Arabs. This is a reminder that the fact that someone is a Muslim that doesn’t mean he’s in good moral conduct.

  6. Here in Brazil the media is controlled by the USA. And President Lula is at risk of being impeached due to his speech against Israel. The Brazilian media heavily attacked Lula. And a request for impeachment of President Lula was filed. Research this nonsense.

  7. There is a limit to shame. If the Palestinians gave you shelter, it does not mean that you should take this attitude towards them in return, and the second thing is that Israel has been oppressing the Palestinians for many years. Palestinians are being burned, children are being orphaned, what happened if Hamas took steps to defend itself? Shame, speak for the sake of humanity

  8. -2 years into the russian invasion of Ukraine
Lula: *Silence*. "It has nothing to do with us".
-4 months into the Israeli retaliation for hamas' invasion of Israel:
Lula: "This is inadmissable. I'm enraged. I'm shocked. This is a genocide".

  9. It's not a "paralyzed UN" on the Gaza crisis. There is overwhelming consensus. It's a single power (US) vetoing everyone else. If western media would simply say it for what it is, that would help.

  10. THE TITLE HERE IS MISLEADING, the correct one should be 'LULA CONDEMNS UN PARALYSIS ON GAZA…'

As a Brazilian, the VAST MAJORITY OF US SUPPORT ISRAEL and its right to defend itself agains Hamas after October 7th attacks. LULA DOES NOT REPRESENT BRAZIL. Please France 24 correct the title of this short video.
