Henry Staunton says he is victim of ‘smear campaign’ after Horizon IT scandal spat

We all know that there was in action all round by the judicial system the government whiteall and particularly inside the post office until the ITV drama Mr Bates versus the post office and there was a rocket then put under things the Secretary of State senior civil servants and post office officials

Are asking us to believe that everything was going swimmingly all along when it damn well wasn’t the reason why people have latched on to what I said said in the Sunday Times was that finally someone was being honest about how deep-seated the problems were and why nothing was being done what the public

Wants to know is why was everything so slow we’ve talked about the 4% and why does everything remain so slow I’ve spoken up on matters of genuine public concern have been fired and now subject to a smear campaign

Henry Staunton, the former Post Office chair, has told MPs he is the victim of a ‘smear campaign’ by the government because he stood up for the victims of the Horizon IT scandal.

Staunton was dismissed last month by the business secretary, Kemi Badenoch, who said bullying accusations had been made against him.

Badenoch sacked Staunton late last month, initially said they ‘parted ways with mutual consent’. Staunton fought back in an interview with the Sunday Times, claiming Badenoch had told him that ‘someone’s got to take the rap’ for the scandal, while Badenoch in a statement in the Commons described his interview as a ‘blatant attempt to seek revenge’.

  1. Not his fault.
Here lets play catch the hot potato.
Yes it happened ,yes i was partly in charge but its not my fault i cannot say whos fault it is.
Well that that then poor barstewards will just have to suffer.

  2. Naz Shah’s office pointed us towards several newspaper articles written by Nazir Afzal, former Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), as the source of her statement that nearly 90% of people convicted of child abuse offences were white men. Mr Afzal had said that between 80% and 95% of offenders were WHITES MALES .

  3. He's a Victim ? The Arrogance Of This Man is Disgusting, He Was Not Falsely Accused Of Stealing , He Was Not Put In Jail, He Did Not Lose His Job or Means Of Income. And He Claims He Is a Victim Of a Smear Campaign… Has He No Shame ?

  4. What a total farce, its the blame game, lies and cover ups and those postmaster/mistresses are left waiting for their payments for miscarriage of justice. Both the PO and Government are looking out for themselves, covering up and blaming the other for the delay in payments. Disgraceful.

  5. When you listen to his entire testomy, you will realise that the faceless Civil Servant never mentioned anything about dragging out the process of payment to the Post Masters or limping to the next election. Nothing that was said to him could be construed in anyway to mean that. He was so careful not to lie under oath, but still maintain his story, which was quite rediculous, but not really challenged by the MPs present. This man is a totally unreliable as a witness.
