Jeremy Hunt whacks new taxes on vapes and cigarettes at the Spring Budget

Before I explain how we will bring down taxes I start with some measures to make our system simpler and fairer to discourage non-smokers from taking up vaping we’re today confirming the introduction of an excise duty on vaping products from October 26th and Publishing a consultation on its design

Because Vapes can also play a positive role in helping people quit smoking we’ll introduce a one-off increase in tobacco duty at the same time to maintain the financial incentive to choose vaping over smoking

The cost of a packet of cigarettes will top £16 following today’s Budget.

The Treasury imposed a dramatic increase in tobacco duty to ensure a tax on vapes keeps smoking alternatives cheaper.

  1. Why not reduce a working week to 30hrs then people might not be so streesed and highly strung that smoking/vaping is required in the first place. Should look at the source of the problem and why people do it in the first place.

  2. Hit the smokers again why not. I don’t even smoke but man all you ever see is the prices going up way beyond anything else. Just gives more of an incentive to would be illegal cigarette sellers to commit crimes and turn regular people into criminals by using illegal sources for cheaper tobacco.
