Commons speaker ‘regrets’ decision to allow Labour vote on Gaza ceasefire

It was my wish to do the best by every member of this house I take I take very seriously I no no the danger is that that’s why I wanted everybody to be able to express cuz I am very very concerned about the security of all

Members let me just take this to I was very concerned I am still concerned and that’s why the meetings I’ve had today is about the security of members their families and the people they involved and I’ve got to say I regret oh it’s ended up it was not my intention I wanted the

All I wanted all to ensure they could express their views and all sides of the house could vote as it was and particularly the S SMP were ultimately unable to vote on their proposition I am and I regret with the Deep with my sadness that it’s ended up

On like that in this position that was never my intention for it to end up like this I was absolutely absolutely convinced that the decision was done with the right intentions I recognize I I recognize the strength and feeling of members on this issue clear

Today as not sh the host at its best I will reflect on my list I will reflect on my part in that of the course I recommit myself to ensuring that all members of this house are treated fairly I do not I do not want it to have ended like

This I want to say to the house I will meet with all the key players of each party I think it is right that I meet with each ones and that can I just put that correct I’ve never met with s gr today I didn’t bump into it today I’m

Offended by that com I think you’d like to withraw yeah because that is the danger but we’ve ended up with AO speculation of not what is fact and not factual I am honest to this house I am True to this house I believe in all members of this

House and I tried to do I have tried to do what I thought was the right thing for all sides of this house it is regrettable and I apologize for for a decision that didn’t end up in the place that I wish for so I would say

Now I say now I will meet with the all the just just be quiet please I will meet with the leaders and with the chief whips and lets of a discussion on what is the best way forward to try and ensure that and I say again I thought I

Was doing the right thing and the best thing and I regret it and I apologize for how it’s ended up I do take responsibility for my actions and that’s why I want to meet and that’s why I want to meet with the key players who have been involved

Lindsay Hoyle earlier allowed Keir Starmer to hold a vote on Labour’s preferred solution to the Middle East crisis. Dozens of Labour MPs were initially preparing to vote for a SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. However, Hoyle decided to allow Labour to hold a vote on its own amendment, calling for a ceasefire only in certain circumstances. After chaos ensued and MPs walked out in protest, the speaker addressed MPs and apologised for his earlier decision, saying he ‘regretted’ how the debate had turned out. The SNP leader, Stephen Flynn, said the speaker’s position was now ‘intolerable’.

  1. So it would seem some MPs were saying they needed anonimity to participate in the vote. Maybe their
constituants wouldn't like their vote? But which side wanted anonimity?

  2. You effed up you allowed yourself to be blackmail by starmer you need to be in the chamber first thing with resignation letter in hand a you can kiss your lords seat goodbye Bercow Mk2

  3. Outside the police admit projecting onto public buildings is an offense, wearing facemask is an offense, assault is an offense…………………..but it happened and police did nothing. Two tiered policing again. Remember the violence the police unleashed on vaxxx protesters and football fans? There is that today?

  4. Resign you basically stopped the snp from progressing with the best chance of a ceasefire, it was your intention you ignored advise. Too late GO ! You too have blood on ur hands as well.

  5. This is embarrassing at this point the US, UK, Germany or anybody else that is literally allowing this because letting Israel commit war crimes only allows other people to do it because they will use the excuse that Israel did it and nobody said anything 💀 smh
