The Duchess of Gloucester Steps Up To Support Queen Camilla

Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, has stepped up to support Camilla in King Charles’ absence.

The Duchess has always kept a low profile, and rarely courts publicity. But it’s reported that she has attended an amazing 5,000 royal engagements since marrying into the Royal Family.

Birgitte has accompanied Camilla at a number of recent events, just as King Charles has been forced to take a step back from public life. King Charles is currently being treated for cancer, and attends a more limited number of official engagements.

The Danish-born Duchess married Prince Richard, the youngest grandson of George V, in 1972. Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, has also attended dozens of engagements this year. The pair met in Cambridge, where Birgitte attended a finishing school while Richard attended Cambridge University.

The Duchess also has a portfolio of more than 60 charities, and spends a lot of her time supporting and promoting them. Birgitte holds a number of honorary military appointments, both in the UK and the commonwealth.

  1. The Gloucesters have quietly and consistently carried out royal engagements in support of the country and Monarchy with no complaints. I believe it is they who had to move from their Kensington Palace apartment so it could be renovated for Harry and Meghan, who then declined to live there. A lovely royal couple.

  2. A true friendship and love and support for family. I'm glad to see them and hope to see more of them supporting the king and queen. Who needs retirement. ❤ from Canada

  3. Super nice to see the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester take a more prominent public role now. They have always been kind, elegant and classy in a very normal way and that requires no daily PR stunts to promote themselves. All the best in supporting King Charles and Queen Camilla. I think Queen Camilla has a smart head and strong shoulders . She is the rightful Queen and doing a great job plus she loves King Charles very dearly. Likewise the Prince and Princess of Wales are a strong, loving and unbreakable bond. God Bless You All !!

  4. God Bless, in our everyday prayers. support and compassion would certainly be kinder for the family. I've walked this walk its beyond what you think unless it happens to you.

  5. Too bad Edward and Sophie, the Gloucesters, Kents, and the other lesser known royals who serve without whining don't receive as much press coverage as prince sparrey and his wannabe Diana wife get. Let's have NO drama and more coverage on service to others.

  6. Camille has proven to be a true Queen .The kings family like he Duchess of Gloucester have stepped up for the king. Thars what a good family do not exploit the situation.

  7. How lovely for this beautiful woman to bolster the Queen(who is rather shy).
I do wonder about the Duke of Kent. He’s only been seen a few times since QEII passed. He always looked frail & I hope he’s well.
