Cameron: Aukus and Nato must be in ‘best possible shape’ before potential Trump win

Look it’s up to America who they choose as their president it’s a very important principle in foreign policy not to involve yourself in other country’s elections and what we will do as I’m sure an Australian government would do is work with whoever becomes uh the

President uh we do it in the UK on the basis that we have a very special relationship with the United States based on cooperating over uh defense and security and intelligence in an incredibly um close way uh what I would say is that um whatever relationship we’re talking about whatever part of uh

The Enterprise that we are involved in whether it is orcus which I think is an absolutely brilliant Arrangement or whether it is NATO’s Arrangements the most successful defensive Alliance in history all of those things I think whoever is President the best thing we can do is to get those alliances to get

Those um projects into the best possible shape so whoever is the new president can see that they’re working with a very successful set of arrangements

The UK foreign secretary, David Cameron, has suggested the Aukus pact and Nato alliance must get into “the best possible shape” to increase their chances of surviving Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House.

Speaking after high-level talks in Australia, Cameron was careful to avoid criticising the former US president and presumptive Republican nominee for 2024, saying it was “up to America who they choose as their president”. The comments were in response to a question about whether the election of Trump in November would affect the Aukus agreement that was sealed with the Biden administration in March last year.

  1. Trump doesn't care that much about AUKUS. He cares more about NATO. For him, "The best possible shape" of NATO is increased defense spending of NATO member states. If that happens, he will credit this to himself and his leadership style and will be more favorably oriented towards NATO, because at that point it will be in his best interest to do so. if NATO member states don't increase defense spending, Trump/USA will react negatively towards that, and NATO as an organization will suffer. Simple as that in my opinion.

  2. R-Sole , MPs can NOT ask him questions, regarding him looking for wars in Ukraine, Gaza , Red Sea & China . As he is from the House of Lords . And Un elected . North Korea have a more honest system .
