UN security council passes Gaza ceasefire resolution with no US veto

Will those in favor of the draft resolution contained in document s224 254 please there raise their hand those are against abstention the result of the Voting is as follows 14 votes in favor zero vote against one abstention the draft resolution has been adopted as resolution 2728 2024 colleagues we appreciated the

Willingness of members of this Council to take some of our edits and improve on this resolution still certain key edits were ignored including our requests to add a condemnation of Hamas and we did not agree with everything in the resolution for that reason we were unfortunately not able to vote Yes and

We believe it was important for the council to speak out and make clear that our ceasefire must any ceasefire must come with the release of all hostages colleagues we meet during the holy month of Ramadan this should be a reason a season of Peace for Muslim communities

Around the world just as October 7th simhat Torah should have been a day of peace for Jewish communities this resolution rightly acknowledges that during the month of Ramadan we must recommit to peace Hamas can do that by accepting the deal on the table a ceasefire can begin immediately

With the release of the first hostage and so we must put pressure on Hamas to do just that this is the only path to securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages as we have all called for today that is what this resolution means a ceasefire of any duration must come with

The release of hostages this is the only path

The UN security council voted to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the first time since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, after the US dropped a threat to veto, in a significant break with the Israeli government.

The US abstained in a vote for a resolution that ‘demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan’. It also demanded the release of hostages by Hamas, but did not make the ceasefire dependent on hostage release, a linkage the US had previously insisted on. All other 14 members of the security council voted in favour of the resolution.

  1. It proved how powerless the largest international organization ever the UN.

The whole organization was on one vote and if the crazy US had decided to veto it again, nothing would have happened.

The veto privilege must be abolished.

  2. President Biden, why did it take sooooo long to begin wiggle toward the right side of history ? so much pain , and so much support sind trust destroyed ! why did u wait for months and yet 1000s of more dead children , Mr Biden ?? where is Israel's accountability ? are you really serious about putting an end to decades of israeli aggression and deceit, or are u going to allow israeli beach front properties in Gaza shortly?

  3. Then why not *Vote Against

An *Abstention seems rather cowardly, but the US is becoming known for lawlessness & spreading progressive-antinomianism

  4. If anyone thinks the people of gaza r so great and deserve protection watch tommorows pioneers then give me ur opinion. The way they indoctinate children is absolutly disgusting.

  5. The Security Council ceasefire resolution was a call on both Israel and Hamas, so if Hamas does not comply neither need Israel. The call for the immediate hostage releases was only to Hamas. So the 2 calls by the Security Council are not mutual, but of course nobody expects Hamas to comply.

Let the Security Council call for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and see who will veto it.
