Hamas says readying response to Gaza truce offer • FRANCE 24 English

we’re essentially in a waiting pattern
um and we’ve been here before it must be
said uh Israel continues to come back to
the table and come closer to hamas’s
demands that’s what’s happened in the
last few days and now essentially we’re
waiting for uh hamas’s response now this
new deal uh uh that were’re reporting on
um includes less than the 40
hostages which is the Baseline number
that we’ve been talking about for really
a few months but it appears that number
has now gone down to somewhere around 30
uh and that will include uh What uh
what’s being called humanitarian cases
that is women including the Israeli uh
soldiers uh the elderly and the injured
it may include some of the men who are
injured um for example we recently saw
that video of um one of the hostage is
the American the young American Israeli
hsh paulen Goldberg and he may be in the
group that gets released because of
course uh one of his arms was blown off
on October 7th um it also appears that
Israel has made concessions on its uh
IDF on the troop
redeployment Israel agreeing uh
reportedly to
gradually leave the corridor that splits
uh Gaza into two uh allowing people to
come back into Northern Gaza without
checks uh Israel also agreeing to
gradually leave the coastal uh route
that it has used during the war and to
pull back to the periphery of the Gaza
Strip uh and also the language of this
uh there’s language about a sustainable
calm uh that is you know a calm that
could endure for months uh indicating
that Israel may be willing or open to
ending the war um but we’re going to
have to wait and see obviously a lot of
pressure from The Americans on both the
Israelis uh who made these
concessions and now on Hamas

Cautious hopes were building Tuesday for a Gaza truce and hostage release deal as Hamas said it was studying the latest proposal and US top diplomat Antony Blinken was due to head back to Israel. The Palestinian militant group whose October 7 attack started the Gaza war said it was considering a plan for a 40-day ceasefire and the release of scores of hostages for larger numbers of Palestinian prisoners.
