Macron floats Ukraine troop deployment if frontline breached • FRANCE 24 English

the French President Emanuel macron has reiterated that he hasn’t ruled out sending troops to Ukraine he told the economists the issue would quote legitimately arise if Russia broke through Ukrainian front lines and if keev made such a request to tell us more Philip T our foreign editors with me Philip first of all just expand a bit then on what macron said in that interview right well um this interview in The Economist is quite wide ranging covering the war in Ukraine the visit coming up next week to France of uh Xi Jinping the Chinese president the future of Europe uh so one of the questions was of course about the war in Ukraine and Europe’s involvement and coming back to this uh subject of whether or not France would be willing to send troops to Ukraine and uh president macron uh first of all saying that Russia had broken all the rules uh that it was uh a threat at abandoned respect for uh International treaties and therefore he absolutely stood uh by what he said uh with which is that uh troops could be sent to Ukraine as you can see from the quote behind me as I said I’m not ruling out anything because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out we have undoubtedly been too hesitant by defining the limits of our action to someone who no longer has any and who is the aggressor so uh this is something that Emanuel macron has returned to brought up again and in this interview with the economist he’s actually said that he has received support from quite a few other European nation saying that it was a courageous move and a courageous step but I think the underlining issue here is a much wider one what president macron is really concerned about is the future of Europe he says that Europe is not prepared militarily for the situation in which it sees itself right now the European Union was willing to try to build up an economy on its own and to bring in new members but militar militarily it is not uh in line with the United States for example with Russia and other countries uh and now is facing these threats from outside particularly from Russia and from Iran and it’s time now that the European Union and Europe itself uh got its act together and that’s why that French troops could be sent to Ukraine if necessary but only if the Ukrainian authorities a them to come to the country they wouldn’t go to the front line they’d probably be brought in uh to train uh Ukrainian forces or to act uh for bringing in supplies uh Philip let’s talk about a different aspect of the war in Ukraine now because the United States has accused Russia of using chemical weapons on the battlefield tell us about that well there are reports coming out from the US state department this is uh after reports from Ukrainian forces on the ground that uh Russia is using a an agent called chloropicrin which was used during the first world war and it’s being described as a choking agent which can cause irritation to the eyes and can lead to respiratory problems uh and what uh the Ukrainian forces are saying is that there’s been an increase in the use of this agent since the Russians launched their latest offensive to try to take back or to capture Villages uh in the east of Ukraine this agent is basically being used to dislodge Ukrainian forces from difficult areas where uh they will not easily uh give up their territory uh in total um uh non-respect of uh International treaty which Russia itself signed against uh the use of chemical weapons uh the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons uh which has been signed and ratified by uh Russia so of course uh this is something that uh the Russians themselves have uh said is not true Dimitri pesov the spokesperson for the Kremlin was asked about this and he said no it’s totally untrue this is all lies but of course you can’t take anything that Russia says uh to be truthful right at the moment but if it is true this is certainly something that is totally uh banned on the international front and that something Russia should not be doing

French President Emmanuel Macron said the question of sending Western troops to Ukraine would “legitimately” arise if Russia broke through Ukrainian front lines and Kyiv made such a request, in an interview with the Economist published Thursday.

  1. Russia used chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops several times since the beginning of the war, oops special military operation. Why would the US Department of State release what is DOD intelligence except to rally outrage in waning EU support. But it's useless. EU citizens will never give up six weeks vacation, virtue signaling, and womb-to-tomb welfare. All necessary to fund Ukrainian war and its own defense. It will sacrifice the US taxpayer, its economy, the Baltics and surrender first.

  2. 😂😂😂Chemical weapons?.. No need for that, instead that is how they call to the russian FABs arsenal which is destroying all Ukraine lines in the Donbass. No neutral source speaks about chemical weapons, cuz it does not exist. Western creativity rising as Ukraine is being defeated in battle fields.

  3. Empty loud.
Macron knows it's not one sided war game. Nato troops are not prepared for such like Ukraine war. They hsve not seen havoc Fab, thermobaric, missile , drones and other sophisticated artillery strikes😊. What will do the cowerd soldiers ? 4:11😮

  4. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are testing American technologies using artificial intelligence that help detect potential targets on the battlefield using video footage from drones, The New York Times reported. The conflict in Ukraine, as many US officials acknowledge, has become a testing ground for some rapidly developing technologies. "At the end of the day, this is our laboratory now," said Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue.

  5. Yeah go ahead Macron but don't depend on the U.S to help you when you regret that move! Ukraine is not a NATO member! What part don't you understand?

  6. Everything coming out of western media is propaganda. No NATO country will openly agitate the Russians. If it was Syria, Libya or Iraq and even Iran recently they shot Iranian drones and reported it. They cannot attack any Russian asset without getting an immediate response from the Russians. This is only spoken about behind close doors. Even when they want to topple the coup leaders in Niger as soon a the west heard that these people were being back by the Russians they just left without a fight .

  7. It would be interesting to see where Macron would get weapons to fight Russia, and how long it takes for the war to expand to Fwunce. The Pwiince of Andora like his little ancestor will rue the day he sets French men to fight “openly” in Ukraine!!!😅

  8. If Ukraine is winning and only has 31,000 casualties while Russians are incompetent shovel wielders taking massive casualties, then why does France even need to get involved?

  9. Finally there is real leader of the free world! Rather than american cowards Macron makes a real politics. Europeans should take example on him. France is a future european leader!

  10. French troops that can’t even defeat small insurgents in Africa how can they defeat a conventional army 🙄.

  11. Is it true that 27 million Soviet citizens died in world War 11.despite that loss Russia decided to become, withdraw its troops from East Germany and give the reunification.then the promise was broken, and support an American coup in Ukraine to expand NATO and supply weapons to kill Russian in a USA proxy war?who is the aggressor

  12. Be careful what you wish for, Macron, because you might just get it. Ukraine does not have enough manpower and is struggling to recruit. So how do you think they are going to respond to that pledge? They are going to let the frontline fall so that the French should come in.

  13. I'm all for it. NATO doesn't have to get involved if France is fighting Russian troops within Ukraine
Now Putin's gonna know.. If you move too much further then it's not gonna work for you.

  14. There is an ongoing armed attack against a Member of the United Nations, Ukraine. Ukraine has the right of self-defence. Collective self-defense permits other member states to intervene in the defense of Ukraine if it requests assistance.

United Nations Charter, Article 51: "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security."
