Why young US voters are disillusioned with their presidential candidates | DW News

Washington DC the heart of American government and its feverish politics but if you ask young people here about the election these days you get a lot of this not a lot of us are voting right now and it’s so important to have like the youth voice while like to be represented in like voting the two options aren’t very timely They Don’t Really align with a lot of what our generation feels both candidates are geriatric and they don’t represent uh young people’s values um and so I think it’s hard to come to terms with uh which candidate to choose the man who ends up in White House will on a large part depend on what happens here Georgia is a crucial swing state even more important for Devon Jennings to get out the vote he is Chairman of the black ccus of the young Democrats of Georgia his experience this time around is sobering we’re missing that Juggernaut to get the young voters out um you know we saw in 2008 when Barack Obama was running everybody was so excited that people wanted to be a part of that process there was something going on and people were excited to actually be involved with it this year devant mission to get young people to vote may be tricky a recent study showed only 53% of registered voters under 30 intend to vote in the 2020 election a record 55 % of under 30s voted the 2008 election brought out 51% of young voters even Devon admits that his party and President Joe Biden needs to do more to reach young voters Trump has no policies Taylor Made for young people um and I think Biden could be and Biden’s Administration could be a lot better at messaging the packages and the the uh agendas that they do have for young people so I think people get it misc conscrew that there is none I think there’s not one on one side one side just has to package it up and message it better this is Keno State University an UNP partisan group is encouraging students to vote even if candidates may not be appealing young people really care about the issues um you know young people don’t care about who’s in office they care that it’s going to be somebody who actually cares about them fet County south of Atlanta a republican stronghold they are determined to work with young people even if they feel Under Pressure a lot of people are afraid to express conservative views a lot of the young people because they’re afraid they’ll be cancelled on social media back in Atlanta Devante says he and the new Georgia project volunteers who are also encouraging people to vote hear from young people that they care more for specific issues than candidates the biggest thing is right now um they want the issue in Gaza to be resolved um Reproductive Rights and cannabis it’s still a long way to go to the November election only then will this volunteers see if those issues will drive young people here in swing state Georgia to go and vote

In the United States, the presidential election campaign is continuing. Young voters are often considered difficult to reach. And with both Democrats and Republicans fielding candidates born in the 1940s, the parties are worried about how to even get young people to vote. DW’s Daniel Muteti and Stefan Simons report.

  1. Biden really messed up in gaza. No matter how bad trump may be I understand that they don't want to vote for someone supporting all those deaths.

  2. WTF? Vote for American values, your parent's values, climate, your freedoms, duties and obligations. In their short life span, has their ever been a potus who has catered to just one segment of America besides Trump? We're in this together.

  3. So many people here in the US say that the Electoral College is extremely important for fair elections so that the President represents all the US states… I still have no clue what the point of Congress is? Why not just have the President appoint all the Senators and Representatives?
US politics and the government make no sense. They should change

  4. I remember when I was a kid, I walked into the living room where my parents were watching the news during an election year. I saw two adults arguing and trying to talk over each other about issues, and I didn't necessarily understand what was being said, but I just knew that the way they were trying to communicate was wrong. Then I grew up and the system confirmed it all, our political system is not built for logic and solutions, it's built with logical fallacies trying to tear down other Americans who think differently. It's ridiculous

  5. Young Americans are the least likely to vote consistently so politicians tend to cater to older voters who do vote consistently. If more young people voted politics would be more representative of their world views

  6. Not to mention that many college students nationwide are asking what real persons have received Biden's Student Loan Forgiveness Actions as they haven't been receiptiants here in the US 🧐

  7. I agree with the young people they have the right as Americans to vote for candidates that represent their concerns and most of these self proclaimed patriots can't think for themselves beta male society

  8. Because the government is giving money to the richest men in the world, while the ordinary people have inflation, or because the goverment gives money to commit warcrimes, while the ordinary people have inflation, you can choose.

  9. Biden just lost any possible chance at re-election – for Israel. His support was tenuous before, now completely gone. No chance. None.

  10. If you don't want either 2 of the same, you gotta vote for Bobby Kennedy, I'll be voting for Bobby here in Cleveland Ohio. 😊❤❤❤ If you want to know about him, Watch his appearance on Ben Shapiro's Podcast. 🤔❤️

  11. If you can't get out to vote for someone, you need to go out and vote AGAINST someone. There is a world of difference between the two candidates. It's a shame they are both old white dudes, but look past that and you will be astounded what they are doing and saying.

  12. 美国人竟然还没有意识到他们所谓的民主只是一个笑话
    不论怎么选择都是犹太财团先选择出来,然后让你们假装投一个票

  13. Is US system really a democracy? 2 millionaire Candidates who only care for their election donors… I suppose that this is what young people understand

  14. Problem with America is that war mongering dinosaurs still have the power. These wars are outdated and miss the memo that the world is an integrated, interconnect global market place. But these leaders minds are POISONED with hate, power, control, envy, fear, money and try to inject that mentality into our minds, when all we want to do is live, eat good food, work, travel, have a nice place to live, worship God (if you believe in him), be around friends and have a party. These leaders are hellbent on trying to tell us how to think and feel.

  15. Only 2 major political parties, first-past-the-post, gerrymandering, a senate where you need 60 votes to pass any major piece of legislation, and special interests and lobbyists buying politicians.

  16. DW, thank you for providing this service to me in the US. I depend on your reporting to stay informed about world events and to balance the reporting within my own country. ❤

  17. Both the parties are dysfunctional. Out of all the decent candidates we are given a choice between bad and badder. As some comments have suggested there needs to be an age limit for Presidential candidates, indeed for Senators and Congressmen also.

  18. I'm 70 years old I don't agree, with people as old as Biden ,Trump,I feel there to old to represent any country,I hope the young people vote for someone, smart ,young, caring, and build up the tax payers, not spend the tax money on wars in other countries ,I'm not voting for any one who for fighting wars,America is in your hands young people, make your vote be heard, and counted❤I love people, peace is better and cheaper, build the future with the people ,and dont use the people to break bust up cities, countries, and homes that we dont have enough of for the homeless people.😊
