it has been a country Retreat for Russian diplomats in Sussex for 80 years but also recently a base for Russian spying says the British government it is closing down seo’s house and several other properties in what is one of the biggest anti-russian Espionage sweeps in years most significant is the expulsion of this man Colonel Maxim elvic the first Russian defense atache ever to be thrown out of Britain announcing the measures Home Secretary James cleverly anticipated a fur I reaction from Russia in the coming days we should expect accusations of russophobia conspiracy theories and hysteria from the Russian government this is not new and the British people and the British government will not fall for it and will not be taken for fools by Putin’s Bots trolls and Lackey in Moscow the Russian foreign Ministry angrily accused Britain of using outright lies to justify anti-russian measures it’s spokeswoman Maria zaharova warned Russia would take appropriate measures in response the British government believes Colonel elvic is a secret operative with the gru Russia’s Military Intelligence Agency thought to be behind a pattern of malign activity across Europe and allegedly hiring British Nationals to carry out arson attacks on Ukrainian link businesses in the UK how unprecedented is uh what has just happened we spoke to one former British defense attache in Moscow who says those attacks crossed line the straw which broke the C back is the allegations that the goou were maybe behind um recent Arsen attacks that’s the final straw and actually ultimately um the security argument to expel the defense s has outweighed the advantages of maintaining military to military ties it is six years since 23 Russian diplomats were expelled from Britain in the wake of the scre pal poisonings in Salsbury also the work of the giu but throwing out an official of colonel elovich’s rank and status is unprecedented the British government will have thought long and hard before taking this drastic step because it doesn’t come without a potential cost in their day jobs defense attaches play a key role as military liazon with the host country crucially that can help prevent misunderstandings leading to dangerous escalation and losing that important line of communication is not ideal in a time of War it is highly likely Russia responds in kind against British diplomats in Moscow but its activity here and abroad requires punishment says the UK whatever the consequences Dominic waghorn Sky News

Foreign Secretary David Cameron says Britain has sent an “unequivocal message” to Russia after expelling the country’s defence attache.

The UK said it was also removing the diplomatic premises status from several Russian owned properties in the UK and capping the amount of time Russian diplomats can spend in the UK

The actions come against the backdrop of Russia’s war on Ukraine and Moscow’s attempt to “undermine European security and collective will to support Ukraine”, said Mr Cameron.

  1. Deserves the resignation of novice, amateur, adolescent Zelinsky fleeing to Argentina where Austria born and in the Austria army first Hitler and Austria friends fled.

  2. Wow alienating those of his own countrymen who might disagree with the expulsion decision by branding them "Russian bots and trolls" before the public even has a chance to react to the news is the kind of nationalistic rhetoric i would expect from a far right Russian politician, or a YouTuber not a British "gentlemen".

  3. Russia told Cameron straight out that if he sent UK troops to Ukraine they'd get a big fat nuclear sandwich. Russia is not Iraq or Afghanistan. This is Britain's pathetically petty response.

  4. How long will this nonsense go on? The world needs peace and those in power must stop putting peoples lives in danger. If this war goes to WW3, who can tell what will happen? Think.

  5. We don't respect Britain. "Lord" Cameron "blessed" same sex marriage some years ago, and because of that, and other things, we can't respect that.

  6. As known, intelligence gathering and espionage are among the most secret human activities so I don't expect for anyone of us to know what's really behind this unprecedented act. The only sure thing I get is that reciprocal hostility with Russia is growing…

  7. Britain has no secrets. There is nothing in Britain that Russia does not know. The worst part of this story is that 100% of the British people do not have any idea why Russia is fighting Ukraine. They are so poorly informed. This also includes the British Defense Minister. Talking about Russian spies in Britain is a joke. But there are ''pro-British'' Russian gangs employed by the Russian oligarchs who fled to Britain with the Russian people's money.

  8. Americans charming on how they put Europe into such conflict with Russia. Europe is forced to buy energy sources from the US or from US’s meditteranian allies at a much higher cost.

  9. Cameron ? Well that will show Russia .Next he's going to try using shouty words and hissy fits and if all else fails run away like he did last time a bit of backbone was required .

  10. BIG BOMB ….
After Lord Cameron opened his huge mouth and of course always in a wrong time, claiming how UK supports Ukraine in using UK weapons to attack targets in Russia, Russia calls French and UK ambassadors and explains if they do so,Russia will hit French and UK forces wherever they can.
Whole NATO hears about it, and starts calling Paris and London. Under enormous pressure Paris backtracks but London decides to expel Russian attaché out of London. Lord Cameroon again makes UK biggest joke in the Nato and every time one will believe that London could not sink any lower that duo Sunak-Cameroon will find another bottom to sink even lower…

  11. Cleverley does NOT speak for the British people. We want trade relations with Russia and BRICS. Ditch the G7, the G20, the Five Eyes, NATO, UN, WEF, WHO and start turning Britain into Great Britain again.

  12. The UK won't be telling Russia anything. Russia speaks, and our country will obey. It's that simple . I'm totally shocked by such a late response from Russia that this country has been calling Russia bluff for too long.
