German opposition leader: Ukraine must deal with Ukrainian refugees in Germany | DW News
Mr mats you’re the leader of the opposition CDU party the postm era now a new party program which is a lot more conservative are you also the future chancellor of Germany well we decided on this uh new program after two years of intensive discussions we had in our party this uh decision was uh unanimously uh taken on this party convention here in Berlin yesterday this is now the the the platform for our policy for the upcoming 5 to 10 years and all the other decisions we have to take will be taken in late summer this year after the elections in the three states in the East which we have to win and the European elections which will take place on June 9 and we are now focused on these elections so very diplomatic there on that decision um part of your shift towards a new conservatism here is the reintroduction at least partially of military conscription here in Germany what’s your view in relation to Ukraine a lot of men of fighting age are here in the country and Ukraine wants to see cooperation from Germany to get them to Ukraine to fight well first of all the Ukrainian government has to take a decision how to deal with these young men and wom who are here in Germany as refugees and this is something which we have have to discuss with the government and there is no room in my view for a decision which has to be taken only by the German government this is something which we have to negotiate into deal with the Ukrainian government uh the German uh military service is lacking uh of about 30,000 people uh the uh number which uh should be fulfilled is roughly 220,000 we are far below that and that’s the reason why one of the reasons why we are discussing the new military services requirements and the decision was made very clearly here on this party convention that we have to come back to what we had uh until 2011 in Germany and the law is just suspended we can immediately reinforce the uh legal uh basis for this military service and the party convention decided to do so now also in your program your tight uh the Asylum regulations also there is a line on Islam in Germany not being welcome if it’s radical if it goes against um German values what’s your message to migrants who are here or planning to come to Germany first message is that those who are really integrated and willing to meet all the requirements we are having here in this country legally culturally that these people are really welcomed and that we are an integration country willing to have people in this country who are willing to get integrated and are living in this country and the second message is those who are for example asking for Sharia state or for the khalifat state do not have a place in Germany and that is not our policy that is not our political will and we are clearly giving the message who is willing to implement a khalifat state in Germany is not welcomed in this country Germany has also seen a series of incidents where politicians and campaigners are being attacked what will be your re reaction to that the clear reaction uh has to be the reaction of our legal system and those who are thinking that political debates can be made violently they should receive as well a clear message that those parties who are in the broader sense democr atic parties in this country are not willing to accept that violence on the street is becoming a part of our democracy we are not willing to accept that and all those who are doing that have to meet clear consequences from our state Fred matz leader of the opposition conservative CDU party thank you very much thank you
Germany’s conservative opposition Christian Democrats have ended their annual party conference.
Amid the coalition government’s waning popularity, CDU party leader Friedrich Merz is being seen as a potential successor in the chancellory. DW’s Michaela Küfner interviewed him about his ambitions.

We have suggested for a long time that we can help the Ukrainian side ensure that people subject to [compulsory] military service go to Ukraine,” Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland’s defence minister, told the television channel Polsat, though he did not elaborate on what mechanisms could be used.

Germans should of course NOT fight in Ukraine ! What a silly question…
Germans will not fight in Ukraine because there is no legal ways to do so. If Ukraine will fail Germans will fight in the Baltics or in Poland
How about Germany dealing with German exports to Russia? everything going through Kazahstan? cnc machines?
Do Americans respecting your culture when they blow up your pipelines? When they bug your chancellor? Or when they operate CIA detention centers in your soil? Do they even treat you as a sovereign state?
Ukranians should be working. Time to come off the welfare!
What young man and a woman? Does he mean men and women? Poor English.
Peace ✌️ 🕊 🏳️ …
NO DRAFT FOR ANYONE! But if they do, it better not be men-only. Women should be drafted too. Equality.
This is about Ukrainian deserters seeking refuge in Germany, not about Germans fighting in Ukraine. Goodness – my grandfather fought and died in Ukraine and that has to be enough. It was not even for the right reasons.
As to the young lads from Ukraine, they are few and far between. Ukraine mostly sent us its young women which make for a dazzling addition to the dating market. Many of them have exactly one daughter called Olga, but few have any hero waiting for them in Ukraine.
I think he has the habit of shaking his head just a little while lying. He does that almost the entire time.

Ukraine is forcing it's citizens to fight in the war. It's not acceptable.
Wtf? German in Ukraine ??
Again, DW English is using misleading and inflammatory thumbnail titles. Not worthy of a serious news channel.
To make a decision and not to take a decision, Mr Merz!

I wonder why far-right caption in congress would like to love concentrate on some second emergency issues and always ignore vital task.Ukraine is fighting against Russia on EU behalf,Ukraine is on going to defend Russia’s harshly offensive with their bodies.why didn’t you always realize that, this is concerning about EU overall strategically security.
10/5/24 ( Friday ) 11.54 am. Perhaps Germany could take Poland as an example in considering sending back a few hundred thousand Ukrainians to Ukraine to defend their homeland.
This is all a day late and a dollar too short, Biden has messed up the world, and everyone is now trying to work out sorting out what they are far behind in. We need Biden out, these wars stops, get people back home and then start rebuilding and developing.
