France: “shrinkflation” labels coming to France • FRANCE 24 English

if you’re tired of getting fewer crisps in the packet and smaller drinks bottles for the same price things are about to change from July 1st to fight against shrink flation French supermarkets will be obliged to clearly label which products have shrunk despite a price hike and consumers are pleased about this transparency it’d be great to have it clearly indicated but we have to see what the label looks like highlighting something that was supposed to be hidden me off buying it in the first place and make me pick something else it’s great news we need to protect the consumer not the manufacturer for example a label will clearly signal that a packet of crisps has been reduced from 300 to 250 g and that its price however has increased by 32% in January the KFOR Supermarket group anticipated the change putting up similar signs on shelves but the new measure will now apply to every Supermarket over 400 m squared and manufacturers will need to notify supermarkets of any changes they make to their products this new regulation is designed to scare manufacturers into thinking supermarkets are going to tell on them so it’s quite likely that we’ll end up with less shrink flation than before because manufacturers don’t want to be exposed in the last few months dozens of brands have been singled out by the Watchdog food watch and 16 million consumers and the French government’s Consumer Protection Agency will be monitoring the rules enforcement

From July 1st, French supermarkets will be obliged to clearly label products that shrunk without their price diminishing. Story by France 2 and Vedika Bahl.

  1. This effectively does nothing but display the incompetence and economic mismanagment of those in charge, not the companies. Why is your money so inflated, ever care to ask that question? They are juat trying to subterfuge responsibility and push it onto the companies

  2. They will raise prices on the old ones , not sure if there is a policy against raising the price , the business need to make profit , take it or start farming .
