Blinken, Zelenskyy meet in Kyiv as Ukraine faces new Russian offensive

Secretary of State Anthony blinkin visited keev today to highlight us support for Ukraine and reassure officials that Aid is coming he met with President Vladimir zalinski who thanked Washington for passing a nearly $61 billion military aid package Lincoln’s visit comes as Russia pushes forward with its new offensive in Northern harke CBS News foreign correspondent Chris Liv joins us from Rome with more on reporting on this uh so Chris I I keep thinking I mean one thing is showing up and that’s important uh talk to us about what this uh visit from blinkin is doing as he meets with Selinsky and I’m sure uh there’s a lot of questions about okay but where’s the aid hey yeah well you know one thing that blinkin was sure to mention is that a lot of this Aid uh $61 billion to be precise has already made its way into Ukraine and more of it is coming uh he said that that difference will certainly be felt on the battlefield where they need air support more than anything according to zalinski crying out for more air defenses as his people and soldiers are are coming under bombardment uh but this is also a face saving visit you know bear in mind that this is Aid that had been stalled in the halls of Congress for many many months and in that period of time Russia was a able to take advantage of Ukraine and we’re now seeing the results of that can you talk to us a little bit more about that situation on the front lines and and what impact has the delay in military aid uh had on in Ukraine well means that all of that massive progress that Ukraine made in the early months in the first year of this war it wasn’t reverse but it was a massive setback so you know remember that Ukraine was the underdog to begin with massively outgunned outmanned by Russia people thought that Russia would roll over Ukraine in a matter of days and then almost miraculously Ukraine was able to stand up to this Russian Onslaught largely thanks to United States support but then that support came to a trickle and then was cut off completely uh and it was in that period of time uh earlier this year that Russia was able to make some significant gains namely around har uh seven Villages at least have fallen in that period of time harke had been this story of of of of Ukrainian resilience it was an area right on the front line with Russia much of the area had fallen to Russia Ukraine had been able to reclaim this territory and now it’s seeing those those gains fall back into the hands of Russia and what’s become this bloody tug of war so on that Chris I mean does the 61 billion that is a big number uh does that signify a bridging of the gap of what Ukraine needs what do they need to be successful well they they absolutely need more of it look I mean if you’re trying trying to put a number on it it’s hard to say it’s less than 1% of the US budget that’s gone towards supporting Ukraine right now so effectively it’s a rounding error and from the perspective of Ukraine what’s so mystifying about this is that not a single American troop has been lost in this fight so far that is so important for American interests and for the interest of NATO if Russia succeeds in plowing through Ukraine and going beond Beyond NATO’s doorstep and into a NATO country well then you would have to see American troops on the ground and we wouldn’t be talking about billions we’d be talking about many many more billions possibly trillions Chris lit say thank you so much

  1. Interagire con un gruppo di persone così competenti è un privilegio che non do per scontato. C'è così tanto da imparare gli uni dagli altri.🐱

  2. I am your sister from Yemen, and by Allah I only spoke out of hunger and distress. My mother, my brothers, and I lessons and tears. We are in a situation that only God knows about. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs for those who brought us to this situation. By Allah Almighty, I did not write this appeal out of distress and distress. Poverty, O world, they have felt it So, I hope for you. By Allah Almighty, Lord of the Great Throne, he ate what I had in the house. By Allah, my brothers, he is my brothers by sitting in the house. Who has no food? By God, we are in a very difficult situation. We have 4 people entering the house, and my father has died, and there is no one who can depend on us and who lives in it.We live in a rented house because we cannot pay the rent we owe. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''' My brother, my first words are: I swear to God that I will not lie to you or deceive you. I am a Yemeni girl displaced from the war. My family and I live in a rented house in Al-Shahrab 20,000 Yemenis amongs, and now we owe 60,000 for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of the people who does not have mercy, by God, my brother. He comes every day, insulting us, talking about us, and moving from the house to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighbors saw us crying and came back. They came back to talk to the neighbors and we were given the weekend. So we made him swear by God. He will take us out into the street. Have mercy on him and us. Our country is due to this war and we do not find food for our day, and my brothers and I live in a difficult life. Our father died, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world who was with us in these harsh circumstances. My younger brothers went out into the street and saw…The neighbors eat and stand at their door in order to give them bread even if they break it. By God, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and expelled them and came back crying. They are dying of hunger. No one has mercy on them and a holiday is returned. I have made a living, and now if us helps us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God, I am dying of hunger. My brother, I am an alien to God. Then, I ask you to help me for the sake of God. I ask you, by God, to love goodness and to help me, even if you can, by messaging me on WhatsApp.On this number +967717354582 and ask for the name of my card and send it and do not be late and may God reward you with all the best, my brothers Sagar, see how they are and help us and save us before they throw us out in the street, you will be lost or we will die of hunger. My family and I ask you, by God, if you are able to help us, do not be late and may God reward you well..`/–~«««~~♡~♡~♡~~•~•~♡~♡~~♡~♡~♡~♡♡♡~~~~: ~:~¡~¡~¡~;I.i.i.i.i.i. i.I.|-ː}-|>}-|>}-|>}-|>}-|>}-|>💔💔😭😭☪️🕋………😢😢😢

  3. These wars would not be taking place and U.S. tax payer dollars wasted had it not been for the bad decisions made by Joe Biden and now the Democrats want us to give him 4 more years to start even more and continue destroying the U.S.

  4. Better to give aid now than sending trillions and boots on the ground as was required when our grandfathers and fathers liberated Europe

  5. He must have delivered the firstpallet of money that was in the newest bill that all the Capital Hill Crooks voted to give to Ukraine.

  6. Earlier this year (March) Zelensky announced he spent 500millions on the construction of fantastic and unbreakable defensive lines, where have they gone?
Tones of concrete and wood, trenches…?
