Ukraine has reclaimed half of the territory that Russia seized at the beginning of the war, and one day it will be a NATO member, the alliance’s top soldier said Thursday.

“Every day we are growing closer and more interconnected until one day the Ukrainian flag will be hoisted in front of this headquarters,” Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO’s most senior military officer, said.

When asked about the current Russian push in the Kharkiv region, Gen. Christopher Cavoli told reporters that Russia does not have the numbers to breach Ukrainian lines and that “they don’t have the skill and capability to operate at the scale necessary to exploit” such a breakthrough.

  5. Almost all the small gains Ukraine made in 2023 have been reversed. Additionally sine Adivika fell in February, Russia has andvaced in the east. Now they have captured 100 square kilometers north of Karkiv. This doesn't make any sense to claim this now.

  31. This clearly illustrates that Russia's intentions were only to take the regions that wanted to secede to Russia. If they wanted the entire country, Ukraine would be theirs.

    When fighting for territory, the attacker(Russia) will take the primary objective and extend further to push the defender(Ukraine) back from the borders. Then the attacker(Russia) can comfortably fall back while the defender(Ukraine) accumulates losses trying to regain their lost ground. But the defender(Ukraine) will never retake the territory that was the initial objective for the attacker(Russia).

    This demonstrates Russia's claimed intentions from the outset to free the Donbas and Kherson regions was sincere.
