Macron proposes truce between Russia, Ukraine during Olympics

look um a truth is not for me um the end game sustainable peace is the end game but I think it’s very important first this is a tradition and it’s very important to use this window during one month a tradition to have a truce during during the Olympic Games and and I think this is a very good um opportunity first diplomatically precisely to engage with China and others and tell okay you you’re on on the peace side get with us and and and help us to do so and second to maximize the level of pressure on uh on on those who decided to um to launch a war and this is why uh I I think this is a big clarification moment because every week till now President Putin was claiming to be available for peace the day we enter in in real time money time I would say for peace even say okay are you ready to start 26th of July the 12th of August say no I’m not ready so for everybody in the world it’s clear is the one who decided to launch this war and he is not ready to make peace part of Putin’s objection to a truth during the Olympics relates to a decision by the ioc to disallow Russian athletes to participate in team sports but folks this is not a story that’s going away anytime soon Craig and we’re going to watch it uh play out there is an ancient tradition uh starting back in agent Greece uh to hav Truse during the Olympics so we’ll see what happens yes we will Andrew R soing for us there in Paris and uh you can hear more of Andrew’s conversation with French president Emanuel mcon coming up tonight 8 o00 Eastern on CNBC hey thanks for watching don’t miss the Today’s Show every weekday at 11:00 a.m. eastern 8 Pacific on our streaming Channel today all day to watch head to today.com allay or click the link right here here

  1. Truce is a tradition, which wasn't always held,. But banning countries from participating in Olympic games is a new tradition.

  2. CIA director William Burns wrote the famous memo, that "No, means no" for NATO expansion in 2008 even before NATO summit 2008 where Ukraine was invited.
Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel at the 2008 Bucharest summit said that NATO inviting Ukraine will be seen by Russia as declaration of war.
Many officials said that this would lead to a civil war that could potentially lead to Russia intervening, back in 2008.

But since that was the goal of NATO expansion to weaken or possibly destroy Russia so that US can pivot it's full attention to China, this plan was implemented.
