this was a tragedy that happened on a school trip from what we understand and the victim was Leah Harrison she’s 10 years old she was in year six from Mount Pleasant Primary School in Darlington and she was described as a happy and bubbly girl and in a statement from the school they say Leah was a much loved part of our school and our thoughts and prayers are with her family friends and the school staff counseling has been arranged for all those affected by what happened the weather yesterday here was horic horrendous it’s been raining for about 30 hours it has only just stopped unofficial weather records nearby say about 60 mmers of rain just in the one day yesterday that’s more than a month for this time of year and that caused a very difficult conditions and she was caught up in a Mudslide somewhere up on these Hills uh yesterday she was obviously buried they had a major operation with 30 Mountain rescue volunteers but they were unable to save her

Keep young kids in the confines of school grounds…. You can never guarantee their safety outside of the school.

Dont allow your child to go no where with a school, if they cant promise there safety and prove safety ? A family is broken through neglience now, and by an instructor who was clearly out his depth and inexperienced and didnt think twice about walking along this path with vulnerable children considering they were not very experienced at all.
I know how much paperwork and health and safety goes into these school trips. It’s an absolute nightmare to plan. Feel sorry for everyone involved.
Anyone blaming the school or teachers simply hasn’t got a clue.
Maybe the constant cloud seeding should stop and give us a break from the rain and save lives too. Corrupt government in charge!
