The Netherlands veers sharply to the right with a new government • FRANCE 24 English

a photo op 6 months in the making a government Coalition for the Netherlands led by the far-right leader h wiers who promised to stay true to his party’s hard line on immigration and to opt out of the eu’s new Asylum system even if it took years to do so we first use um the Dutch law and the crisis law we have to make sure that um there will be less influx of Asylum seekers in the Netherlands and um that is something that we don’t need the European Union for that is totally compatible with European law velders said the Netherlands plan to follow in the footsteps of Denmark which negotiated a deal to be excluded from the eu’s Asylum policies but an EU spokesperson appeared to pour cold water on that idea but added he would wait to hear exactly what the Dutch government had in mind you cannot opt out of EU legislation in the past when certain um discussions were taking place on treaties certain countries in the context of those discussions negotiated opt outs but we are working on the basis of existing treaties the eu’s PCT on migration and Asylum includes tougher borders and shared responsibility among the Block’s members to take in Asylum Seekers the new rules come into effect in 2026 and the deal’s passage comes ahead of europe-wide Elections next month and which immigration is playing a major role meanwhile as Dutch politicians outline the government’s new policy it still remains to be seen who will be prime minister of the eu’s fifth largest economy prime minister Mark Ruta is retiring from National politics and is expected to be tapped as the new NATO Secretary General fielders himself has shelved his Ambitions to be PM amid widespread unease over his anti-islam and anti-european views

After months of tense negotiations, Dutch nationalist Geert Wilders and his coalition partners have struck a deal to form a right-wing government. Far-right leader Geert Wilders said Thursday (May 17) it could take “years” for the Netherlands’ new government to fulfil its pledge to opt-out of the EU asylum system, but vowed the nation would enforce its strictest asylum policy ever.

  1. When are the people of Europe going to realise that the European Union is not a democracy. You get what you vote for. Wake up, Europe, before it is too late.

  2. "Veers" implies something happening quickly… six months is not exactly 'veering"… Wilder's party may have won the electoral vote, but the majority in parliament is far from right wing, which is clearly proven by Wilders not being able to be premier because no coalition will allow it given his proven racism and anti-immigrant opinions.

  3. No chance of opting out.
    Migration should be shared.
The Dutch, with their huge maritime empire, have responsibility for taking their fair share of migrants from the from the East like Indonesia Malaysia etc

  4. He is not anti-European, as stated in your report; he is anti EU; and there is a world of difference in that. You should not malign and misrepresent people for the sake of your bias.

  5. The difference with Hungary and Poland was that if they did not comply with EU rules, they did not receive billions in EU subsidies. The Netherlands can simply say: as net payers, we no longer pay!

  6. We have closed borders here in Denmark and closed. Wilders is not anti Europe, he is just tired of the bureaucracy in Bruxells work so slow on the immigration issue!

  7. What really happens at The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and was this German investment, for years Germany investing in China, is tik Tok the making of Netherlands?
Mostly why is weather so strange, lately?

  8. FRANCE, UK, EU and other non-muslim countries what are you waiting for. Make a law, make it illegal and it should be ban. Stand up this practicing other religions did just turn our countries divided. These refugees keeps demanding everything, they can move to muslim countries to stay and live there.

  9. Netherlands has a lot more guts than Australia, a woeful Marxist country that is terrified of “offending” anyone, consequently we are being walked over with hob nailed boots.

  10. Opt out of the EU, no one in the Netherlands voted for the EU government. Toss so called asylum seekers who are actually invaders taking over your country raping your women and attacking your laws. Be as anti-islam as islam is anti-national values, laws and cultural norms of the host nation they seek "asylum" in. Have your religion but your religious dictates are not laws here and don't apply and your aggression will be met with overwhelming counter aggression. No more tolerance for the intolerable.

  11. EU should get a common link language (English for example) in all member countries for Administrative, Judicial, Higher education, Jobs, Banking services etc purposes. Else EU will become irrelevant and inturn the member countries will become irrelevant too.

Take inspiration from India and make English the common link language whether member countries wholeheartedly like it or not

  12. Without military alliance EU is useless for wealthy country like Netherlands. Will not get surprise if they choose GBs path.

  13. Good for the Netherlands. Perhaps France can do the same, and get rid of Macron and the other WHO puppets wrecking the country!!! This news broadcaster has just demonstrated AGAIN, that it is a propagandist mouthpiece for the LUNATIC LEFT Marxist agenda!

  14. Implementing the interest of your country already makes you "far-right".
Also: he is not anti-islam nor anti-european for imposing order on his country. edited.

  15. Don't give asylum to the people of the peaceful religion (Idiotic religion). If you (politicians) are secular and allow them, then one day you and your people of the land have to be deported to some other countries from your own motherland. Please mind it.

  16. Each country has the right to refuse entry and the EU putting pressure on countries to take these people in is just driving a wedge between them, the EU can’t say they haven’t seen the changes that are happening in Europe it’s all over the news and internet so why do they keep taking this stance on taking in immigrants. The security of Europe is at risk and countries are being destroyed by people who don’t want to integrate, religion is a big issue as we’ve seen more and more Muslims coming in and trying to force their beliefs on us that has to stop if they don’t like our culture they should be deported immediately. Other countries are now taking a hard stance against the EU and if they want to keep the EU together they have to start listening and acting in the best interest of the European people, Islam has no place in Europe it’s caused nothing but trouble for hundreds of years. You just have to look at what is happening with the Palestinian situation they want Europe to take these people in but all the countries close to them with the same religion don’t want them why, this so called religion of peace is nothing more than a front for terrorism just look what happened to Israel.
