  1. Not looting, they want to be independent. Stop the oppression and occupation of this island nation. It’s not 1800s .

  2. If France leaves, New Caledonia will go the way of other post colonial socialist states. We've seen it all before. Then everyone will want to migrate to Australia, New Zealand or France proper.

  3. France should leave this island, the natives on that island are not very intelligent people and will probably die off from infighting and malnutrition do not know how to govern themselves to sustain agriculture or infrastructure for what many countries consider basic essentials.

  4. In French Guiana, almost the entire local population were killed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Let's see what the future holds for the Kanaks in twenty first century.

  5. It will be relatively easy to induce the French to grant New Caledonia, more autonomy and then gradual succession from France, but one has to remember, the political expression against France is easy, but the multi – national nickel companies and others may withdraw their investments there.
Little point in burning and damaging society, if there are no jobs for the politically – empowered Kanaks, after France decides to withdraw. We,British, were more sensible in the old British Western Pacific High Commission Territories, rather than hang on in The New Hebridies, now Vanautu, we ended colonial rule on the 30th July 1980, and the British Solomon Islands in July,1978.As a result, Britain is highly respected and despite ethnic issues in those 2 places, Britain is a good friend, sensible and pragmatic and even.France is nothing like that, it is terrified of the English – speaking world influence and has bad memories of the old French Algeria and has huge numbers of hard right conservatives in France who want France to sustain 'la gloire', instead of being realistic in the internet age, when everything gets seen and emotionalised, politically.France also has huge territories in Polynesia, and Australia has had issues with France over the old nuclear tests and old – fashioned direct territorial control, without allowing the better alternatives, France needs to be pragmatic, like Britain, when we left the Pacific in the 1970's and 1980.

  6. God help us if the rioting groups gain sovereingty or independence, if this is the sort of state they want to establish, where there is no law and they are willing to loot and destroy to gain or maintain power.. South Africa went down the gurgler when the ANC took control, look at it now, guns, riots, ethnic disorder, theft and corruption.

  7. Many people suggest in this thread that 'only Kanaks should live in New Caledonia' and that all the White French should go home. I ask you if you think the same should apply in Europe or other parts of the world? Should we separate by race then? It sounds like racism to me.

  8. They are shamelessly colonializing in 2024 and giving the lands back to the people who want them back with weapons.
While the occupying French state is doing these, it is also trying to teach other states a lesson about human rights, freedom and democracy.

  9. Same thing was happening in Hong Kong and you guys were calling them peaceful protests and demonstrations, but as soon as it happens in your back yard it’s suddenly riots and looting.
