Taiwan’s new president calls on China to stop making threats

In his first address since being inaugurated as president, Lai Ching-te said peace was the ‘only option’ and called on China to stop making political and military threats towards Taiwan.

Lai said the new government would make no concessions on democracy and freedom and asked for new cooperation between China and Taiwan, starting with tourism and student links. He continued: ‘Let us together pursue peace and mutual prosperity’

  4. Although I am a supporter of the Kuomintang and do not like the DPP coming to power as president, the vote is a foregone conclusion.

    I still congratulate the DPP on becoming the central government of the Republic of China 🇹🇼 👏

  5. I've worked with mainland Chinese. They have no big yearning to conquer Taiwan. They want to trade with Taiwan. They want to visit Taiwan and be welcomed into Taiwanese homes. They want to welcome Taiwanese into their homes. It is only the hyper ambitious Xi who wants to wrap his slimy fingers around the island.

    Maybe, if Xi had kept his word on Hong Kong, there wouldn't be a Taiwan separatist movement.
