prime minister gosh hello good to see you very nice to see you hey sorry to have no not at all I know You’ in Normy yeah it all just ran out there was incredible but it it just ran over everything I’m sure so apologies for keeping you no not at all I’m sure it was a powerful trip I mean so pertinent as well this year you know considering what’s happened in Ukraine which I haven’t seen President Biden’s remarks by that’s kind of the echo what he did you get to meet any of the veterans or were you cere lots over yesterday and today yeah I’ve already spoke to almost everyone that was there I hope

Rishi Sunak apologised for his lateness as he arrived for an interview with ITV’s Paul Brand, telling him D-day commemorations in Normandy ‘all just ran over’.

The interview created a big election headache for Sunak last week, with the prime minister forced to apologise for missing part of the D-day commemorations in France to record it. Sunak was heavily criticised for leaving the 80th anniversary events early for a pre-recorded programme, with opposition parties calling it crass and a dereliction of duty.
