The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the American ambassador to protest the use of US-made missiles in a Ukrainian attack on Russian-annexed Crimea that killed four people and wounded 151. The Kremlin, led by President Vladimir Putin, has blamed the United States for the attack. Russia claims that US-supplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles were used in the June 23 attack. On June 24, Moscow told US ambassador Lynne Tracy that Washington “has effectively become a party” to the war on Ukraine’s side and warned that “retaliatory measures” would “certainly follow.” Meanwhile, the Biden Administration has said that the ambassador told Moscow they “lament any loss of civilian life,” adding that Russia “could stop this war today and end the suffering caused by the war it launched.”
