African Spring: Kenya’s Protests Echo the Arab Spring… • FRANCE 24 English

because at heart it’s about living conditions it’s about the massive debt overhang that Kenya’s built up so that almost 70% of revenues are being spent on servicing creditors and uh that’s cutting into education and health and all the rest of it that’s why people are so angry and last point I just wanted to make is in terms of the significance it’s maybe too early to call this an African spring but the parallels with what happened in tus Square in 2011 are pretty sharp you know you got you had the same sort of boisterous Rous response from hosney mobarak you know you’re traitors you’re trying to destabilize this country I’ve got the people with me we’re going to uphold the institutions then the next day completely changing around I’m really sorry things are so I never knew things were so bad we’re going to make Con some concessions meanwhile he’s he’s lost the people and he’s lost some important elements in the military so I think it’s a very dangerous point for for Ruto right now
