The key thing here is that the court has a right-wing majority due to Trump appointing Federalist Society members to it. [They’re in it for the gratuities.](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/26/us/politics/supreme-court-corruption-bribery.html?unlocked_article_code=1.200.5Dy0.J4IxNwAgJ5nC), and will always favor profit over people as a result.
