police in the German city of Hamburg have shot and severely injured a person who threatened them with a pick ax they show a man wielding an axe you can see there at the front of those pictures by The Cordon they then fire that pepper spray and the police do then fire several shots now we have paused that um that was the moment that the police fired several shots as I said the video doesn’t show all of those being fired you can now see the activity that happened after that now police say that the attacker was is receiving medical attention and as you can imagine a major operation is taking place in the city now German media say the incident took place near a fan zone for Dutch supporters all ahead of today’s Euro 2024 match between Poland and the Netherlands

  19. Small detail but this is not a pickaxe, icepick or axe. It is a slate roofing hammer. It is not something you commonly find in German DIY stores as it is a specialised tool that is used by tradespeople for building old style slate roofs. The attacker likely is a tradesman I would guess.

  37. Wasn’t an axe, it was a mentally disturbed young man with a roofers pick and a bottle that looked like a Molotov cocktail which he tried to light but never worked. The police tried to talk to him but when he threatened to throw the bottle was warned, repeatedly didn’t react and a cop then shot his throwing arm. Not excusing any of this – but I hate the ‘sensationalist headline’ mentioning an axe… all sports fans should be safe and German police are on high alert to make sure that remains the case. But this is typical British tabloid click bait.
