13 arrested after yacht fireworks trigger Greek forest fire • FRANCE 24 English
now in Greece 13 yacht crew members and passengers have been arrested after fireworks launched from the boat allegedly sparked a forest fire on an island near near Athens firefighters did get the blaze under control but other parts of Greece and Turkey are now suffering from a new season of deadly fires our correspondent Natalie savaricas has more details in Greece they attribute the vast majority of Fire is to negligence but fireworks being you know like triggered by a yacht is pretty unprecedented even for the great party islands that dot the agan now what we’re hearing is that 13 Greeks were arrested but they’re actually the crew member uh who were on board now the actual uh people the party people who are allegedly uh through these fireworks uh late last night um what I’m hearing from my sources this is still unconfirmed but they’re saying that Nationals of Kazakhstan um and the uh police uh have uh Border Police are on high alerts to um detain these people for questioning um and of course press all relevant charges now the island itself either is very difficult to access and to battle the Flames because it’s actually uh there are no uh cars or Vehicles allowed on the island and it was the only Pine Forest on the island so you can imagine the outrage of the locals but a Greeks uh as well as it battles uh fires that have already started due to the pretty unprecedented weather conditions um that are hitting the country already in June
Greek authorities on Saturday arrested 13 people after fireworks launched from a yacht set off a new wildfire on an island near Athens as the country confronts a new season of deadly summer fires. The mayor of the island of Hydra expressed “outrage” after the fire was started late Friday and vowed legal action against those responsible. Just wanted to say, my country foreign Ministerium workers called to Greece , they said they did mistake , it was people from Pakistan., please before you blame some country, guys must get real informations from the authorities. All which is ends Stan are not same countries, Pakistan very different country than Kazakhstan.
