Google’s AI search summaries use 10x more energy than just doing a normal Google search

1. Id be really surprised if it was only 10x. Normal search searches a vast amount of data but it is primarily indexed ram lookups spread over a thousand servers, it’s a lotta servers but the amount of computation per search is small. I would not be surprised if the ai summary is a cache lookup for a lot of common searches though, rather than generated on the fly per search.

2. “Hey, everyone, we have some really exciting news to share with you! We’ve updated our product to do the same thing worse, slower, and less efficiently!”
