Years ago I discovered a patent for a hurricane fence that could actually work. I don’t know if the patent is still valid, but here’s how it worked—
A line of buoys, solar powered, that pump cold water up from the depths to create a line of cooler water at the surface.
Why this will work — In the text I read (not sure if it was in the patent or someone else’s write-up) an event was referenced where a hurricane’s path took it over a region of slightly cooler water (the cooler water was the result of an unusual event — sorry I can’t recall specifics). The cooler water effectively disabled the hurricane. Someone noticed and filed for a patent on the idea.
This would be a relatively cheap thing to test. It could be fascinating!
