Demand for scrapping cars in Scottish cities surge following LEZ introduction

The headline doesn’t actually match the analysis. scrapcarcomparison.co.uk has seen a 64% increase in people using their website compared to last year, not an actual increase in scrapping cars (which may or may not be happening). Something to keep in mind is how inflated the used car market was last year, which drove up the trade in price of all vehicles and this made it uneconomical to scrap cars in general.  

    To ascertain whether or not this is an effect of the LEZs then they need to compare the data to more than just last year and also look at locations without an LEZ. As it is, the story is just “we’ve seen correlation in this small sample of internal data and use that as a measure for something else that may also correlate with our small sample”.
