French legislative elections: Voter turnout at 59.39% at 5pm • FRANCE 24 English

absolutely there is yes so here the interior Ministry has only just announced that at 5:00 p.m. that’s 9 hours into voting turnout is at a whopping 59.3 n% that is almost 20% higher than it was at the same point in the 2022 elections now some cities will have their polls closing in just an hour big cities like Paris uh they will remain open until 8:00 p.m. uh but this is an enormous figure uh it’s worth bearing in mind that the last two elections uh you saw the last two sorry parliamentary elections total turnout throughout the day went came in at under 50% so this is a real coup uh in terms of proving that this is a really exceptional election uh and voters are particularly galvanized yeah as you said Antonia it’s a huge number it looks like it’s bigger as well than in 1997 and how is that higher turnout likely to impact these results well uh what we need to bear in mind here is that the French legislative election process the way the votes are counted does take into account voter turnout uh for a race to settle in one round which some races will it won’t be the majority um a candidate has to get an absolute majority in terms of votes cast but for that to count there needs to have been a 50% turnout or more most races will go through to a second round uh and what usually happens is there are only two uh horses in that race R if you will because you need 12.5% not of votes cast but of registered voters um total uh in order to qualify for that second round higher turnout will push up those numbers so more candidates meet that threshold so we could have a record number of what are called triangulars uh there were only eight in 2022 and one in 2017 so this is a really historic moment and could really sh change the shape of the campaign and the results yeah

Voter turnout in France’s first round of voting Sunday in the 2024 general elections stood at 59.39 percent by 5pm according to the interior ministry, around 20 points higher compared to the same time in the 2022 elections, FRANCE 24’s Antonia Kerrigan said, reporting from Paris.

  1. I’m French and yes I voted for le Rassemblement National. Been voting for them for years. Why is everybody surprised at that result? I’m not!! Vive le RN, vive la France 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

  2. PEOPLE OF FRANCE, Rise to the occasion, all that National Rally needs is an additional 10% to 12% more to end up with an Impassable MAJORITY Blockade in Parliament!! One that no coalition could be established that would be able to overcome or circumvent the Populist majority!!

This would leave Macron with only one choice, assuming that there still exists at least a tiny spec of integrity left somewhere within himself, Of Resigning in embarrassment and shame as The President of France effective immediately!!
Opening up the position for Marine to finally see her dream realized as the next President of France!
Assuming that she is still interested in the job. Perhaps she is happier being party leader instead.
