Found this during a clear-out. Doubt you’d get a can of pop for that price today.

  1. 7.5 quid adjusted for inflation. Should get you a festival pint but without the plastic cup deposit.

  2. The British GP director thinks the reason tickets haven’t sold as well this year is because of Verstappen dominating the sport lol. No its because it costs about £300 a ticket you numpty.

  3. That’s the year Mansell won the championship. Hold onto that, it’s probably collectable for the right crowd.

  4. I remember going in 1996 and think it was about £10 a ticket then for similar. I remember being in awe of how loud those cars were. The roar of a V10 you heard long before you saw it.

We got a good spot up on the grassy mound Luffield, so saw them slowing down into the Priory / Brookland complex – an area no longer part of the current layout now it has more infield.

  5. A 15-pack of pop (Coke to be precise) is £7.90 at Tesco, so not only can you get a can of pop for £3.50, you can get 7 cans of pop for that price with some change left over.

  6. I was there. I had no idea it was as cheap as £3.50, even by 1992 standards – that might have bought you a pizza at a restaurant.

  7. A child’s ticket for tomorrow is actually free. So this is probably the only ticket that it is cheaper now than back then.

  8. I looked at going this year as I’ve never been, but by the time I joined the queue, the surge pricing had kicked in and the price for the grandstand I wanted was absolutely obscene.

I’ll stick to the BTCC as it’s about £30 for the day.

  9. Hold your thumb over the main ticket date and get cheap admission in a few years

  10. Put this on r/forumla1 and they will be foaming at the mouth about it with the recent price issues

  11. I had a general admission ticket for the weekend a couple of years ago. It was an amazing experience, and people forget all the other racing/events/music you get for your money. However…

If you ever want to know what it might have felt like to be a peasant at a jousting tournament in the middle ages, go to Silverstone with a general admission ticket. Then watch all the lords and ladies in their fancy boxes with their helicopters.

  12. The fact that you say ‘bottle of pop’ tells me how old you are, the dated ticket helps a little also.

  13. Omg I went to that Grand Prix. My uncle took me. I was 11 years old. All I remember is how long it took to get there and how the weather started off poorly then the sun came out. We took our spot near a bridge. And I remember a big group of guys drinking loads of fosters cans. I was jealous as I wasn’t allowed to drink any.

My uncle kept telling me how amazing some guy called Senna was but it was all lost on me at that age.

  14. The Bank Of England inflation calculator doesn’t accept decimal inputs, so I rounded this up to £4.

Adjusted for inflation this ticket should only cost £8.56 today.

  15. I was a scout back then, for this very race, and we had a job of flyering all the cars in the car parks (vast!!)

Spent the day out in the sun papering the windscreens.

The prize was entery to the F1 on the Sunday.

My dad (the scout leader) said I couldn’t go, as he was going corporate through work.

We only lived 4 miles from the track and could have cycled (we cycled to do the flyering!)

    So that was that.

Sunday morning dad drove off to Oxford for the race, where a helicopter flew him to the track for a day of Champaign and meeting the Williams team.

Still I had the last laugh, on the Friday night he went to the F1 ball where Eddie Jordan was playing his saxophone. Dad was in his kilt and smuggled a few bottles of the high end whisky that was just on all the tables.

He slipped on the steps of Stow school and slid down getting a nasty injury and embarrassingly smashed his loot in the process!

  16. My Dad used to go to Silverstone every year from the 80’s until early 00’s and I think the 1992 GP there was one of his favourites he attended. Never realised it was so cheap the lucky bastard 😂
