  1. Idk, but I’m not buying overpriced cars (which they all already are). I’m going to drive my petrol car to the ground but will not buy into this. There’s plenty of piece of junk and old cars out there. If this is all you can have in Europe without giving your kidney and your first born, so be it. No “saving the environment” from my side.

  2. Europeans electric cars are too expensive for the working class. They’re just depriving people of mobility.

  3. bout fucking time. fuck china.

now subsidize EU cars and other products and wean EU off of china completely.

  4. The EU: We must reduce our impact on the planet by any means necessary!
Also the EU: No, not like that!

  5. Experts in China said that European tariffs were expected and aren’t going to be a nuisance at all. They’re still making plenty of profits even with 37.6% tariffs! In the US they are at 100%.

  6. If you look at the Chinese market, car manufacturers have been tailoring their designs to give the buying public what they want. European manufactures give the public what they want also, as long as what they want is “upsell”.

Besides Dacia, they have managed to double the cost of a entry level small car in the last 10 years alone, Im not sure that rewarding them by making imports more expensive is the correct motivation for this cabal to try a little hard to deliver value for money to European customers. I suspect these tariffs will only lead to yet more overpriced shit (which still uses Chinese batteries), and them trying to hide the outrageous price behind leasing deals.

Before anyone mentions the new e-c3 (or clones), it doesn’t have any battery thermal mangement, making its long term residual value very dodgy proposition indeed.

  7. We need to reduce carbon emissions.

Also, we are going to keep electric vehicles unnaturally expensive.

    Thanks EU.

  8. People here are saying European EVs aren’t affordable, so what does this solve? Are they that afraid of people preferring Chinese cars, that they have to hike the price?

  9. fun fact, they batteries which are 50% of the value will still be Chinese- there is no alternative

  10. Loads of people not understanding economy at all commenting. Sure it sucks for the environment…if you think shipping cars all the way from China, cars which use lithium mined in the most polluting way possible, is eco-friendly. Remember that China makes it almost impossible for any western company (B2C or B2B) to operate there profitably and to compete fairly against Chinese companies. China is the most protected market there is. USA just implemented huge tariffs to Chinese EVs too. Why should EU allow Chinese companies to eat up the EV market share here without any additional cost?

  11. Is there a requirement to have failed basic economics to work for the EU? Typical EU with the mercantilism. This is unfathomably stupid (coming from someone that really dislike China).
