Hungarian Prime Minister asks Zelensky to ‘consider quick ceasefire’

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has asked Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to consider pushing for a ceasefire with Russia that could accelerate peace talks.

Mr Orban, Vladimir Putin’s closest ally in the EU, said the two countries were trying to overcome previous disagreements and move towards better bilateral relations during his surprise visit to Kyiv on Tuesday.

He also told Mr Zelensky that Budapest, which assumed the EU’s rotating presidency on July 1, will be at Kyiv’s “disposal” and said it is ready to take part in the modernisation of Ukraine’s economy.

  6. The quickest way to end the war is for Putin to order his remaining troops to leave Ukraine and return home to Russia. Perhaps they could take Orban with them.

  18. Putin sent Orban to get a ceasefire. Orban's lips are tight to Russia. It's like letting in the wolf because there's a storm. Orban will be sent back to Putin with nothing in hand.

  31. Zelenskyy could feel Putin's evil in Orban's hand. Putin and Orban are in a pact to take Ukraine and to benefit from the spoils. The Special Military Operation hasn't gone according to plan. They have a whole bag of tricks to worm their way into other nations. They do it every day in the cyber world. Orban's visit is just one more strategy in that endeavor. Zelenskyy is too wise to fall for it.
