  1. I was at Czechia Turkey game. Whole stadium was covered with wolf banners. All banners were allowed to enter.

Then I went to Austria Turkey game. Whole stadium was covered with wolf banners again.

Making wolf gesture with hand isn’t racist gesture. Even Bundesverfassungsschutz says so in their 2023 report. I won’t discuss it in this sub. People who think Bahçeli is racist is delusional. Which racist hosts 15 million refugees by force?

Anyways, let’s change the perspective. Whole Austrian side had eagle banners. Their national team has eagle on jersey as well. Didn’t “Austrian painter” use that symbol as well? So with argument of Nancy Faeser and UEFA, Austria should be suspended no matter what.

Albanian eagle isn’t banned. France has their bird on jersey. England has three lions. Netherlands has orange colour. Same example goes to all of them.

Happy downvotes, have a nice weekend 🙂

  2. This gesture has nothing to do with racism. One right wing party doing this doesn’t decreases it’s meaning at all. Turkic people in China, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Siberia, Iran are all doing this gesture. Are they all member of that tiny political party? Of course not. This is a gesture which symbolize being a Turk. UEFA and Germany should be ashamed of themselves for this decision because it is literally racism against the Turks.

  3. This is not just ‘nationalistic’, it is the grey wolf gesture, anyone interested they are hardcore supporters of genocides turkey commited in the past and proud of it, they are the worse anyone can find in europe.

  4. how wasnt the swiss guy banned for the albanian eagle then? Dont quite understand

  5. The only reason for this is to eliminate Turkey. The gesture is a national sign in Turkic nations which is being used for more than 2000 years. It is not meant to degrade or undermine any other nations. It’s for Turks only.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Europeans brought Qurans to the game and burn them next.

  6. I just love how non-Turkish people that know very little about the wolf try to explain to Turkish people what it means after a quick google search.

I saw people try to compare it to the Nazi salute, ridiculous. The wolf gesture isn’t something that’s only associated with fascism or racism, it isn’t something taboo.

If you see someone doing it in Turkiye, you wouldn’t automatically assume they are far-right or ultra nationalistic. Many Turks use it without the extra connotations.

    Here’s Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who was the leader of the leftist main opposition party and who ran against Erdogan & Bahceli in the last presidential election;

What Merih did was idiotic but to a Turk, this certainly feels like a “gotcha” moment by UEFA. It makes more fucking sense to ban him for that mustache than the gesture.

It is much closer to the German or Albanian Eagle or the English Lion than the Nazi Salute. The Gokturks used it as a flag in 500s.

  7. This wolf gesture is wrongly associated with the Turkish culture and history, the most relevant they can point is a Buddhist (!) statute doing the Karana Mudrā or one or two placet influenced by chinese in central asia. Even the wolf as a symbol is highly debated.

On the contrary, the wolf gesture was never used in the vast majority of the Turkish history, there is no such depiction or a photo, it never appeared during the Seljuks’, ottomans or the Turkish republic throughout a millennium.

It was first introduced to the Turkish society in the early ’90s by an ultranationalist leader of the grey wolves, a terrorist organisation according to France and other countries. Their ideology is attached to ethnic and religious violence and pogroms against minorities and the applause of genocides, supporting the idea of a pure Sunni Turk.

The wolf gesture is banned as a fascist, hate, nationalist and racist symbol by Austria and other countries.

The player will be able to compete in the finals, if everything goes well, and hopefully he will be by then a bit wiser and better educated.

Edit: 1. 1993 iirc was the year when the ultranationalist leader introduced the wolf gesture, not even a few generations before!

    2. The wolf can be found indeed in some ancient depictions and myths unlike the wolf gesture , but it is a central Asian motive in general and again disappears throughout a millennium until recently.

  8. Guess they should disqualify france since they have a fascist symbol on their coat of arms

  9. All i see is that leftist-fascism of Europe, trying to cancel Turkic culture and oppress Turks all around the world.

Leftists fascists and their racism and hatred against non-leftists should not be tolerated anymore. Im very glad that Right-Wing is rising in Europe. And hopefully, Trump is going to win as well. Fingers crossed.

  10. dude, i dont get it.. they suspend this one guy for some gestures, but they just file up some fines and whatnot for albanians&croats shouting “all serbs must die” or wtf they were shouting… i mean, wtf is this?!

  11. This is absolute travesty. He should have done Nazi salute, or play with his genitals. That would probably please UEFA.

  12. [whole serbian team make chetnik gesture](https://editorial.uefa.com/resources/0267-11dbc1c0f3d9-08efe9f9a491-1000/format/wide1/serbia_celebrate_reaching_the_2010_world_cup_finals_after_a_5-0_win_against_romania.jpeg?imwidth=2048) and uefa puts it into official site. national animals of countries are on their jerseys, no problem. a turk make a historical gesture, FASICISM, RACISM, WHATEVERISM, punish them. another racist behaviour from europeans, ***Im Westen nichts Neues***.

  13. “nationalistic”? Openly showing support for a terrorist organization is what that is called, fucking newsmedia these days

  14. As a Turkish intellectual, I think I should clarify this issue.

The conversion of Turks to Islam started in the 10th century. At that time, Turks did not live as a united community, but as regional powers, sometimes establishing noteworthy cities. I won’t go into too much detail. Before until this date, the Turks believed in Tengrism a different interpretation of Shamanism. During this period, the Turks considered nature sacred. In this respect, concepts of nature appear quite frequently in Turkish legends.

One of the legends of the Turks is the legend of Ergenekon, which tells of the rebirth of the Turks and their salvation from extinction. In this legend, the Turks were accompanied by Grey Wolves. Grey Wolves have a big place in the mythology of the Turkic Tengrism. It is believed that Turks are the children of wolves. This sign does not depict any race or violence. It is only a reference to the Grey Wolves in the Turks’ epic, who are responsible for the rebirth of the Turks.

Of course, national feelings are also at the forefront in this match. However, the sign has never been used for racial hatred or religious purposes.

It was perceived as political because a racist paramilitary group organized in the 1960s against the leftist movement in Turkey exploited it. This group has continued to this day. Unfortunately, many crimes have been committed in the name of patriotism, but the majority of its supporters are really exploited patriots. Just like the patriots who were exploited by the leftist movement in the 60’s, which they had thwarted with violence and coups d’états.

I know this is long, but I needed to clarify this situation.

  15. Europeans won’t understand it’s made as a Turkish symbol, no one cares about fascist organizations

Turkish won’t understand Europeans doesn’t focus on the point that it’s made as a Turkish symbol

2 day lost from Turkish national agenda while economy is in shambles

I won’t understand how EU can call Turkish natzees at any case (WW2 0 death 0 kill )

  16. “Following Merih Demiral’s penalty, thousands of Islamist-Fascist Turks are preparing to collectively give the Grey Wolves salute at the Netherlands-Turkey match, which President Erdoğan will attend as a spectator, to challenge Europe.

In Turkey, which is on the verge of an early election, Islamist-Fascists are turning Euro 2024 into their political show to counter the rise of social democrats. Many players in the Turkish national team have political connections.

The Turkish national team serves as a showcase for Turkey’s goal of controlling all radical Islamists in Europe”

It’s not enough for Merih to be penalized. Turkey should be expelled from UEFA

  17. I wonder what would happen if the whole Turkish team would do this gesture if they score against the Netherlands? Or if they would all go in front of the Dutch team and grab their genitals?
