  1. In an interview with liga.net, the deputy commander of the 3rd Independent Assault Brigade, Maksym Zhorin, pointed to the enormous changes that have taken place in the Russian army. At the beginning of the full-scale war, it was much weaker than it is now. While the Ukrainians became complacent and filled with false hopes, the aggressor adapted and eliminated the shortcomings.

    – When we were laughing about it, when we were having fun, we dreamed that tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, in two weeks – the war would be over. We heard such opinions from some people, but the Russians have adapted, prepared and modernized in the meantime – he said.

According to Zhorin, Ukrainian journalists in particular contributed to the systematic underestimation of the enemy.

“Instead of landing in reality, we ourselves began to enter this strange state, as if in a dream,” he said. The military official emphasizes that the current Russian army is not the same army that invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

  2. Finally someone says the cold hard truth.

Not sure whether this sub can deal with it

  3. It’s fair to say folks mistakenly believed Russia would stop after it’s horrific losses became more well known. I think what was surprising was to learn that the same disastrous tactics employed by Russian leaders in WW2 remain popular. I don’t see a basis to say Russia has modernized.  Russia has been forced to rely on foreign aid and Soviet surplus to remain in this war at all. Russian tactics have improved little and continue to rely on meat waves and artillery. Their casualty numbers ratcheted up significantly and have stayed up. There navy is decimated and useless. Their air force has done little to neutralize Ukraines defenses or play a bigger role in the front aside from the impact of the new glide bombs. They have barely managed to counter Western weapons, and that only by blasting the entire EW spectrum to hell.

If any Ukrainian soldier has a right to be angry it’s azov. They’ve born the worst of the worst since this conflict started. But frankly Russia is barely holding it together and will likely capitulate unless Trump wins in Nov and pro Russian candidates win in Europe.

  4. What we see on this subreddit is only good news about Ukraine’s success and the incompetence of the Russian military. It gives a sense that Ukraine is kicking ass and winning by a large margin. Just remember that with every Russian meat train comes with Ukrainian casualties. They are being exhausted of ammunition, manpower, energy, morale, you name it. And manpower seems to affect Ukraine more than Russia.

  5. So, the army that had thousands of tanks, amored vehicles and special forces at the beginning was much weaker than the current one who now has electric scooters, golf carts and rickshaws??

Are we being fucked with here??

  6. I think the delusion that russians are idiots, don’t adjust, don’t innovate resides mostly in the west. Most Ukrainians don’t have the luxury of such delusions. The biggest factor is pretty simple. Russia is on war rooting and the west isn’t. Now ofcourse the west (Europe and North America in this case) can easily outproduce and out innovate the russians, but they’re not fighting against the west, they’re fighting Ukraine and whatever scraps the west throws Ukraine’s way.

The sense of urgency, the simplified command structure, the volumes are just not there for Ukraine to win. So combine russia’s manpower advantage and russia’s industrial advantage and we are where we are. Ukrainians are fighting heroically, but heroism doesn’t mean shit when a 500 pound guided bomb explodes on top of your head.
