I suspect he has some credible intel on what China wants out of this war.
This is why NATO’s 2024 summit will invite Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand to Washington.
It’s quite possible that Xi is going to “really” invade Taiwan, soon.
Japan has been a strong supporter of Ukraine not just to stop Russia’s aggression, but because they know that China is watching to see how far they can push before the rest of the world says “enough”.

Yes, one of their CCP top gangsters came over to my country New Zealand for a ‘friendly exchange of views’ a few weeks ago, no doubt trying to sniff the air and threaten our Prime Minister.

It’s not so much that China wants Russia to win, but more that they don’t want Russia to fall apart in the event of a loss, because with India and Taiwan, that would just put more insecurity on their only remaining stable neighbor.

If russia conquers ukraine, china can secure access to grain.
Because if china starts a war with taiwan, the food supply will be jeopardized and a starving people will quickly rise up.

I’m not sure China wants Russia to win, probaly Xi just wants both parties to bleed out. If Russia loses, China gets East Russia, if the West loses, China gets Taiwan. It’s a win-win for them. China just wants the war to last as long as possible to weaken everyone.
With that said I’m just a guy with a keyboard, I’m sure the NATO secretary general is a bit better informed than me…
