High voter turnout: Voters ‘galvanised’ by possibility of change in snap elections • FRANCE 24
well as you said those figures you cited are much much higher than what we’ve got used to seeing in French parliamentary elections in 20122 and in 2017 the participation the turnout figures dropped below 50% and to see 59 59.3 n% long before polls have even closed that’s a real coup um it’s worth noting as you say the big point of comparison is in fact not the most recent uh parliamentary elections but that 19 97 snap election of course legislative elections in France usually come just 2 months after a presidential election uh which usually brings out a result that aligns uh with the presidential election and so this is a very unusual situation we the Electoral calendar has been interrupted voters have been galvanized because in this election there is a chance to uh really massively change uh the French political landscape from the status quo we’ve seen people in the streets going up to other people out and about encouraging them to make sure they go out and vote because that is just how uh switched on voters seem to be this time it is an incredibly consequential election and Antonia just how is that higher turnout going to be impacting these results well it’s worth noting that the French system is extremely complicated for uh parliamentary elections uh some races across France of those 577 different constituencies up for grabs some races will be settled today in one round uh for in order for that to be the case a candidate would need to have an absolute majority in the vot votes cast also would need to be more than 50% turnout most races though will go through to two rounds and anyone who makes 12.5% of registered voters that’s not votes cast it’s a slightly higher threshold will go through to the next round uh and it’s usually a two horse race but higher turnout will push up more candidates numbers and will potentially mean there more uh triangulars as they’re called triangulars are fairly rare in French elections uh 2022 saw eight seats going through to these three horse races in the second round only one seat in 20 2017 was in that situation but we’re looking for we’re expecting many many more this time around it remains to be seen just who benefits from that but it would really change the shape of the results eventually and how the campaign plays out this week with many many more likely much more likely wheeling and dealing uh between parties as candidates in these three horse races potentially decide uh alliances to be drawn or where to put who to put their weight behind
French voters surged to the polls Sunday in the first round of high-stakes early parliamentary elections called by President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month after dissolving the French parliament. Galvanised by the possibility of change in the makeup of the National Assembly, voters turned out in high numbers to cast their ballots at the urns, FRANCE 24’s Antonia Kerrigan said, reporting from Paris.

Macron is a stooge of USA. The EU is a body of countries lumped together to serve world Zionists from one centre.
The EU is not independent at all. Shame…
Macron caput !!!
Are you still going to call the majority of French People FAR right? I guess France 24 will rebrand to Bullshit 24?
it should be compulsory …otherwise you end up with a large part of the population complaining even though they didn't bother voting
Can macron say for me in his most dripping French accent 'Sacre Bleu'
Right is Right
No more “far right” scare tactics?
Rip Europe, viva la china and rusia and the global south.
The end of FAR left. Finally.
Macron sent home. About time.
1945 our grandparents said Never Again 😡. I will never vote extreme right 👍
