  1. **From The Telegraph’s Deputy US Editor, Rozina Sabur in Malwaukee and Associate Editor, Gordon Rayner:**

Boris Johnson urged Donald Trump to back Ukraine in a one-on-one meeting on the sidelines of [the Republican National Convention](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/07/15/donald-trump-shooting-latest-updates/).

It comes after Mr Trump [picked as his running mate JD Vance](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/07/16/jd-vance-trump-americas-hitler-republican-vice-president/), an Ohio senator and vocal critic of support for Ukraine.

The former prime minister, who enjoys warm relations with his former counterpart, shared an image of himself posing with Trump on Tuesday.

Mr Johnson said: “Great to meet president Trump who is on top form after the [shameful attempt on his life](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/07/16/donald-trump-shooting-what-you-didnt-see-behind-the-scenes/).

“[We discussed Ukraine](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/russia-ukraine-war/) and I have no doubt that he will be strong and decisive in supporting that country and defending democracy.”

    # Johnson a fierce advocate for Kyiv support

Mr Johnson has been a fierce advocate for supporting Kyiv and has repeatedly called on the West to [bolster its supply of weapons](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/05/26/us-support-for-supplying-ukraine-with-weapons-declines-poll/) to the country since the Russian invasion in 2022.

He has made the case that America’s investment in Ukraine’s defences represents value for money, compared with the cost of countering an emboldened Moscow.

In particular, he has argued that Trump, whom he has endorsed in November’s US election, would not want to begin a second term [by presiding over Russia’s victory in Ukraine](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/04/11/boris-johnson-donald-trump-putin-ukraine-tony-abbott/).

“If you are the party of Ronald Reagan, if you want to make America great again, then you don’t begin a new Republican presidency… by conceding victory to Vladimir Putin,” he said earlier this year.

However, those arguments face an increasingly difficult audience among Trump and his Republican allies in Congress, who have argued [Europe should be shouldering the burden of the cost](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/07/09/ukraine-war-europe-problem-trump-ally-elbridge-colby-labour/).

Mr Vance, who has been a fierce opponent of US funding for Kyiv, is likely to only harden that stance.

Mr Johnson’s meeting with Trump comes days after the former president, 78, [survived an assassination attempt](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/07/14/donald-trump-shooting-everything-we-know-rally-latest-news/) at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The Republican presidential nominee can be seen sporting a bandage over his right ear, which was grazed by a bullet, in the photo Mr Johnson shared on his social media.

  2. Let’s not forget Boris put a KGB agent’s son into the house of lords against advice.

Though I’m still happy that he said it, I judge people by their actions so I see a pair of cunts even if one is pretending to have regret.

  3. Why such a hard-on for Ukraine Boris? As history tells us that you don’t give two shits about anyone without de Pfeffel in their name, how much skin do you have in this game?

  4. This might work a bit because Boris Johnson, for all his faults, looks to have the emotional intelligence to influence Trump. He speaks the same sort of language. The US has been trending towards isolationism though

  5. It just goes to show what a good judge of character Boris is by appealing to two of Trump’s most well-known qualities: his loyalty to his allies, and his love of following the advice of others.

  6. I didn’t say that I hate him, nor do I take anything away from the brave troops who have volunteered or been sent to the front lines. I just pointed out that he has been proven to be a barefaced liar who seeks only to score points or line his pockets and cares about nobody but himself.

  7. That is basically the same Wax-Trump they’ve wheeled out for the same stupid photo-op pose with Orban and every other Putin-poodle that’s crawled into Mar-A-ludo for a family snap in the last few months. You can tell because it’s more life-like and smells better than the real mess.

Well done Bozo trying to convince the dummy to stand up to their boss though………

  8. BoJo’s stark pro-Ukraine stance is one of the few positive things of his time as PM.
Can he sway DJT? Not in a million years. US decision makers rarely listen to anyone and the Donald even less so.

  9. If only the cunt could stand by the horsey girls he keeps getting pregnant, then he’d be a man I could admire in his words..

  10. Being supportive of Ukraine is the one good thing Johnson accomplished, even if he probably cared more about living out his Churchill fantasy than actually aiding a tiny country being invaded by a demented facist.

  11. Dude’s got all the authority of a wet supply teacher taking bottom set maths

  12. Why does Johnson refer to trump as president trump?

Does Donald call him prime minister Johnson and they both get aroused?

  13. Trump: “Huh… who was that guy I was just speaking to? Oh well, doesn’t matter.”

He’s already bought and paid for. The idea that some insignificant pissant like Boris can change his mind is comedic at best.

  14. Has there ever been two bigger cunts in one picture? The one and only thing I think Johnson ever did right is support Ukraine. Shame he didn’t do more.
