Botswana’s elephant conundrum | DW Documentary
The elephant hunt is bitterly criticized – at least by western NGOs. In Botswana, home to 130,000 elephants, it’s seen differently.
Conflicts between humans and elephants occur time and again in Botswana. The large and incredibly strong animals lay bare the roofs of huts, destroy enclosures and sometimes even attack people. It is no wonder that criticism of elephant hunting in Botswana from Western animal rights activists is not well received. Local hunters are allowed to shoot a certain number of elephants each year, as are tourists from abroad. They bring a lot of money into the country, which ultimately also benefits animal welfare, according to the Botswana government. They even want to send 20,000 elephants to Germany so that the Germans can learn about the problems that come with living with elephants. In Botswana, they are proud that the elephant population has recovered thanks to consistent animal welfare programs – but are suffering the consequences at the same time. A report by Florian Nusch.

They should send the excess elephants to other countries where they are scarce if it doesn’t mess up the overall ecosystem, and synthetic ivory can be made with resin 🐘 ☹️🥺😢

Saying that those people have a story relating to elephant doesnt mean they should be killed!minerals have been causing alot of destruction in the world,braking alot of people than elephants and still takes place!its time we call everyone to stand for the African Resources including our wildlife!

The documentary is well put together and shows the hunter in an ethical perspective. Interesting to watch
'We should allow elephants to be murdered because they inconvenience us' is not a persuasive argument. If you live near elephants and they are inconveniencing you, you should move.
Imagine one of the last places left to wildlife and now they're contemplating on their fate
Are the elephants trespassing human settlements or are humans invading their habitat as usual? They're not endangered yet but as human populations expand they'll soon be.
