The World Nettle Eating Contest has been held in Dorset since 1986. Participants eat nettles for 30 minutes and are not allowed to use gloves, painkillers or even vomit. Apparently stinging nettles are good for you and are added to pasta and tea? Long live the nettles?

My mother made nettle soup once, it tasted like urine smells.
Cooking nettles neutralises the stings entirely and makes them completely harmless. Nettles are pretty decent cooked – not amazing, but a perfectly decent leafy vegetable, and very healthy.
Anyway, the weirdos that participate in the contest eat them raw.
I know you can crush and destroy the stinging hairs with your fingers if you grab them hard enough. It’s light, delicate touches that sting the most.
