To save yourself from eating the grubs, soak them in salted water for 15 minutes then rinse thoroughly before eating.
You can eat the green bits if it’s easier. If you’re picking in a cow field try to pick above cow’s arsehole height, and if you’re on a popular dog walking route try to pick above dog piss height.
They’re a little tart at the moment here, but they’ll be thoroughly ripe, sweet and juicy soon!

I struggled to get all that many last year. I think the parakeets may have been snaffling them. They love munching away in the apple trees too.
