Would Trump put equal pressure on Russia and Ukraine to reach a negotiated settlement? | DW News

Former US President Donald Trump, who accepted the Republican presidential nomination at last week’s Republic National Convention, has claimed on various occassions, including during recent campaign events and the disastrous TV debate with President Joe Biden, that he would immediately end the war between Russia and Ukraine if reelected. There is palpable concern across the European continent that in a bid to quickly end Russia’s war, Trump might pressure Ukraine into ceding territory to Russia. Doing so could encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to further expand Russia’s territory and threaten the Baltic nations.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited Russian President Vladimir Putin on what the former described as a “peace mission.” Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently claimed in his regular column for the British Daily Mail tabloid that he had presented former US president and current presidential contender Donald Trump with a “peace plan” that would require Putin to withdraw to “at least” the pre-invasion boundaries of 2022; Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014 and was already occupying parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine by 2022.

  1. Why should Ukraine have to "negotiate" anything with an invader that has made it clear it intends to DESTROY them? Why should Ukraine have to hand over ANY of its sovereign territory? What precedent would that set for brutal dictatorships elsewhere?

  2. he made it better than trumf, but spoiled it be massacring innocent people in the middle east and ukraine. these murdered souls will haunt him for the rest of the liitle days he has left

  3. Though frequently brash in presented character, Donald Trump is intelligent and exceptionally tough. Most individuals would have been broken by a fraction of what Trump endured. The man was even shot at and wounded in an attempt on his life. In that moment of personal stress and danger he did not fall apart, but showed courage, determination and rose. This is the president the USA needs when dealing with international despots who truly only respect strength.

  4. "That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re going to keep peace, all right." –Donald 'I'm like a smart person' Trump

  5. Biden's achievements is historic. The half of UN left to build a new global order, BRICS. China solely prominent in the world affairs. Russia comes strong as neo-Soviet. "As long as US exists, US supports Israel" has earned "the Complicit". Biden "I am a zionest".

  6. Russia should listen and think well to a proposal and husband their young men for living. They have a neighbour to the south that is very strong militarily and has 1.4 billion people and needs natural resources. Nature adores a vacuum.

  7. America is hungry for sanity and compassion over the vitriol of a madman. The world feels likewise, although a few dictators will be disappointed and left in the lurch.

  8. Would Trump put equal pressure on Russia and Ukraine to reach a negotiated settlement? No. Is a Kremlin agent writing your headlines?

  9. If anyone beliefs Harris would do anything remarkably different from Biden‘s politics it would be naive. It’s Obama who has been pulling the strings during Biden’s presidency. Biden just won’t make a useful puppet anymore as he can’t read from the teleprompter anymore nor can he listen to the prompted instructions from the microphone reliably anymore. The whole campaign is just bread and games for the electorate.

  10. odd. there’s multiple candidates for the presidency of the United States, yet you seem/are biased in presuming that one has a say prior to the voters.
