Rwandans vote in presidential election as Kagame set to extend rule • FRANCE 24 English

Millions of Rwandans began voting in presidential and parliamentary elections on Monday, with the African nation’s leader Paul Kagame set to cruise to victory and extend his iron-fisted rule for another five years. Rwanda’s de facto leader since the end of the 1994 genocide and president since 2000, Kagame faces only two challengers after several prominent critics were barred from standing. FRANCE 24’s Olivia Bizot reports.

  1. Kagame is the greatest leader in the world, we Rwandans are very lucky to have him, he really took Rwanda from hell literally and now Rwanda is like a paradise and an inspiration to other African nations.

  2. @ france24, why do you always report false information? The presidential candidates who submitted their candidacy were not refused to context, they never met the criteria required by electoral commission and this was well explained to the public. Your reporter for Rwanda lacks Information….

  3. I am from Sudan and i can say this with certainty , Rwanda is a lucky one to have him as a leader , he transformed the country to a paradise in a span of 10 years and then the country went sky high from there, i wish if we have leaders like this in my country. However i hope he won't be in rule for too long and give a chance to others with brilliant mind to even further develop the country.

  4. Call it what you want but the truth is "We (Rwandans) love Mr. Paul Kagame. We know what it means to have him as President. Every human being has weakness and strength but for PK together with his leadership team have demonstrated the possibility of doing what was considered impossible. Vive son excellence Paul Kagame, vive le Rwanda, vive les Rwandais

  5. I have seen this correspondent Of France 24 lately..
Even during the Rallies she had A biased negative opinion of our choices..
In the Climate of fear 😂.
This Woman Really is up to something…
We will be celebrating our PRESIDENT HE Paul Kagame 🇷🇼✊🏽✊🏽 soon Again..
As you are busy cliping Ears of your own presidents 😂

  6. These guys think they're giving News 😂😂. And every time the mention of "half of the voters are under 30 years", I reply to this like " we Rwandans learnt from a hard lesson since colonization so we make choices ourselves not for your narratives and views of our politics ".

  7. Don't assume don't fantasise what is not in Rwanda. We don't have a climate of fear at all, as you are mentioning.

We Rwandans came out clearly starting from campaigns up to elections.
So be clear that you're representing Western media always want their own imaginary Rwanda.

So that's not the Rwanda I know.

  8. the interview with this rwandan youth reveals they are not as articulate as their kenyan and ugandan counterparts. seems education in this country still has a long way to go.

  9. But when you say he is competing with only two candidates how many would you like him to compete with?? You are always on negative side but for your information we have voted him and for this time he will get 100%

  10. All we need is security for our nation because of where we came from in 1994. He is able to provide it for all citizens. We will vote for him as long as he he stands for presidency.

  11. I am not Rwandans , but I think a young generations are right to vote mr: kagame because Rwanda has been developed starting from a day Kagame took power , so development still continues so far , thats good options by the young Rwandans people.

  12. Why do you say others 3 candidates were prevented by electoral commission? That's a serious issue. They didn't meet the requirements for a chesing candidate. Instead of going after P. Kagame. The world should learn from him and his presidency. His people are happy, and all Africans know it.
