I'm usually clued up about cartoons in Private Eye. But this tribute to Shelley Duvall, who died recently, has stumped me. Can anyone please explain it?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
While the cartoos is probably a reference to *The Shining*, I think it’s also a nod to *Faerie Tale Theatre*, a programme hosted by Duvall which she consistently opened with the phrase ‘[Hello, I’m Shelley Duvall](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrVoJgQ7u8w)’. A compilation of these intros became a meme a couple of years ago.
Its kinda sad cus her legacy will always be tied to this, and she was well known for speaking out against the way she was treated on set. It’s certainly bittersweet, as its one of my favourite movies
No TV and no beer makes Homer… Something something.
The Shining
Oh. I thought it was a riff on Kubrick’s penchant for endless takes…

One of my most favourites of all time.
