China is slowly taking control of a vast and vital waterway, the South China Sea, warns Oriana Skylar Mastro. “Unless the United States asserts itself, China will continue chipping away with its tactics of bluster and intimidation until its military presence in the South China Sea becomes so dominant that it no longer fears war.”
I never understood why other countries (Indonesia, Vietnam, etc) are not more assertive about the SCS. China is big, but so are others. They’re not the US navy.
